I am a big joker and my son (7yr) seems to be getting it honest from me. More and more, when I am trying to disciplining him about something he ends up making me laugh. He is not being a smart a** to me. He's being silly. Even though he makes me laugh he seems to hear me. His behavior is ok now, but what about when he is 17? We are very close. We are still buddies and I want to keep that as long as possible for both of us. Does this happen with anyone else? I don’t want to be mean ogre and I don’t want raise a juvenile delinquent either. What would you do?

Generally, my joker personality and my daughters' joker personalities were never a problem. And yes, sometimes discipline ended up in laughter. They're good kids today (in there mid-thirties) and are facing the same problems with their own children.

At all ages, we seemed to understand the difference between a serious, dangerous infraction as opposed to simple breaking the rules. Breaking the rules tended to end up in laughter, but also an understanding of disappointment and punishment for breaking the rule.

Humor is the greatest gift we can give our children. Keep giving.

This is bad parenting. Your child needs to know that even though you are buddies, you are the boss and the boss has rules. If you do not change this right away, yes you are going to have BIG issues when he is older
