For the most part, I like living in Los Angeles. The weather is almost always great, there's lots to do, and if you want to live smack dab in the middle of the Hollywood/celebrity scene, I can't think of a better place to live. I can also tell you that the public transportation system here is not as bad as people say--since I don't have a car, I rely solely on the buses to get around, and I have never once been late for anything since I moved here over five years ago!
However, I'm sure you've heard about the ugly traffic problems we have out here. The roads and freeways are definitely a problem--there are way too many cars. The cost of living can also be a bit of a downer--it's only slightly cheaper to live in a respectable area of L.A. than it is in Manhattan and San Francisco. I think the job market here is also very competitive--yes, I know, it's competitive everywhere, but this is the first city I've lived in that I've had some real trouble finding gainful employment.
As for the people...I'd say that if you're planning to move here, move with friends, because this is a town of workaholics and people obsessed with getting ahead professionally. You'll find a lot of sociopathic tendencies here--people who can be perfectly nice and polite, but whose real agenda consists solely of getting you to give them what they want. And if you don't have anything they want? You'll just be ignored. Being shy and quiet is taboo here. Introverts freak these people out like nothing you've ever seen. I've learned to take it in stride and now actually enjoy my ability to sit with my mouth shut and my ears open. It weeds out the psychos. ;)
In the end, it's all in your attitude. Can you truly take the crappy with the awesome?
Best of luck.

Los Angeles pros (+):
-great job opportunities
-great weather
-very active, fun place to be
-entertainment industry capital
Los Angeles cons (—)
-Traffic!
-crowded (in the city)
-very expensive compared to the rest of the US.
The good things really do outweigh the bad---so yes--I recommend moving to L.A. It's a great experience!

I used to live in Burbank (in LA)
Good: Nice places to shop, nice scenery (in the good areas to live), nice attractions, sports(Lakers) warm weather year round, occassional star sighting, and everyone seems to be amazed that your from LA when you tell them.
Bad: too many illegal immigrants in the crappy parts of towns, bad smog, traffic sucks (major congestion in freeways durign rush hour), theft, bad parts of town are dangerous at night.
