There is a lot of speculation that he is. There is also a lot of symbolism between the two, as well as astrological similarities.

No. The sun is a star. Jesus was the son (of God according to christianity), not the sun. Sounds the same but have totally different meanings.

One classic Star Trek episode ran with that pun, didn't it? set on a parallel "Roman Empire" ("Bread and Circuses: ep 43)
Certain hymns and sermons do also use the Sun/Son twinning for imagery. "We are directed to one burning spot in the Heavens, to the Sun of the spiritual world, to the Light of Life." (Robert Barclay sermon)
"Hail the Sun of Righteousness! " is a line from the carol "Hark the Herald Angels..." but the context is quite clear. It's not a conflation of two theologies.
One has to be a little careful, given the meaning of the name "Lucifer"!
But unlike the Star Trek episode, I don't think there's much evidence of an actual confusion of the two items, or a merging or evolution of Sun God theology into Christianity. Metaphorical linguistic uses only.

No, not the sun. not even the Son of God. If you believe that there is a GOD--then he is part of this spiritual being born into flesh. Christianity just tries making it easy and saying "Son of God". Many believe he was just a teacher or Rabi---and why their writing talk about his coming, and his death--refuse to accept Jesus as the voice, even though what happened to him copied the writings. Jesus was nothing more than the spirit of God born of the flesh to face temptations of the flesh with out knowing his true divinity. This passing caused a new set of rules-- Basic "treat others how you wish to be treated" it is no longer don't kill, don't steal, don't........ . Now -It's you will be kind, you will help your brother, you will care for your elders, you will ................ Of course this could all be Hogwash--But, that would make all religions Hogwash too.

you are being funny? No the sun is a huge ball of gaseous matter akin to an h-bomb furnace. jesus was a rabbi rebel often laden with exploitative tales that had to be made up as they defy reality.

The sun never setting. Jesus is the morning star.
Seen at first rising.
*This expression also, "before the morning star," is used both figuratively and literally, and was thus fulfilled. For the Lord was born at night from the womb of the Virgin Mary; the testimony of the shepherds does assert this, who were "keeping watch over their flock." Luke 2:7-8 So David: O Thou, my Lord, who sittest at the right hand of my Lord, whence are You my Son, except because, "From the womb before the morning star I have begotten You"?
*For we read how the Lord said, "I am the light of the world." Thence arose a question, lest any one, [materially] understanding this, should fancy this light to mean the sun: we came thence to the psalm, which having considered, we found meanwhile that the Lord is the fountain of life. Drink and live. "With You," it says, "is the fountain of life;" therefore, "under the shadow of Your wings the sons of men hope," seeking to be full drunk with this fountain. But we were speaking of the Light. Follow on, then; for the prophet, having said, "With You is the fountain of life," went on to add, "In Your light shall we see light,"—God of God, Light of Light. By this Light (uncreated light) the sun's light was made; and the Light which made the sun, under which He also made us, was made under the sun for our sake.
These expressions are figurative.
Read John's Revelation of Christ as the Eternal
Son:
1:12. And I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks:
1:13. And in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks, one like to the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the feet, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
1:14. And his head and his hairs were white as white wool and as snow. And his eyes were as a flame of fire:
1:15. And his feet like unto fine brass, as in a burning furnace. And his voice as the sound of many waters.
1:16. And he had in his right hand seven stars. And from his mouth came out a sharp two-edged sword. And his face was as the sun shineth in his power.
1:17. And when I had seen him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying: Fear not. I am the First and the Last,
Church Fathers Teaching:
*You see, then, my brethren, you see, if you see inwardly, what kind of light this is, of which the Lord says, ""He that follows me," says He, "shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
