Since I was in 8th grade I've always had a girlfriend to spend time with. A year ago my last girl friend and I broke up after 5 years. We met in highschool and we survived through college until now. Over the years the dynamics of my relationships with friends has changed into merely aquantences. Some to just internet friendships where its awkward to hang out in person. So technically I have no real friends anymore. For the past year I haven't really gone out at all. I work from home and I'm pretty much done with college (I dont need to go onto a campus anymore). So, what the hell do I do now? I've always been a group person.. never done anything alone. Dont know how to function as a single person. I live in south florida so its not like I couldn't meet someone, its just, I feel so awkward when i go anywhere alone. Bars, Clubs, and those places.. It's alittle weird to go to those alone. I feel kinda lonely.. would like to make friends but no one my age lives around me. Any advice?

Bars and clubs aren't the place I'd recommend finding friends, all those folks necessarily have in common is that they are drinking.

Find some classes, clubs or groups that do things you are interested in and sign up. If you have religious affiliations, find a church in your area to attend. Basically you just want to get out and meet people, preferably in a healthy environment. If you seem to have a connetion with a particular person, suggest you do some activity outside the rest of the group. That's pretty much how it starts.

Friends don't have to be your age. I have friends as young as their teens and as old as their eighties. And those friends have friends and famliy members who are also interesting to get to know who may be closer to my age range, or not.

It will take some adjusting to get used to being alone, but it can also be very rewarding and enriching to explore what you really want to do without having to consider another person.

I suggest joining some local volunteer organizations or clubs that interest you. Do you like playing any particular sport?? If you do, join a local recreational team in your city or join a gym and meet people that way. Maybe hang out at a local bookstore if you like to read or join a church in your community if you are religious. Just be around people with the same interests and step out on a limb if you are by yourself and meet new people. What is the worst that can happen?? Just say "hey, what's up, my name is _______." and let things go from there. Good luck to you and just be yourself and God bless! :)

Start by joining something you like to meet others with the same interests. Or volunteer. Take up quilting (I'm serious) & join a guild. You wouldn't believe how many wonderful women of all ages belong to a guild. The few single guys who go get lots of attention.

It's just another way to live. Embrace it as a positive change. Even if it's only temporary. It's good to gain perspective by trying new things anyway. Most people could use a good break from relationships.

Maybe try graduate school for something you are interested in... Most graduate programs are at least somewhat social
