I put a Nam Vet in the ambulance the other day.Yes he is a drunk. He has a home, but prefers to be around people. Those people in their minds do spit upon him.The ambulance drive could do nothing but harras him as I helped lift him onto the gurny. What this man went threw in Nam affected this mans ability to cope with life. But because to most passerby he just seems to be addicted to some horrible vise that our children should not discover. He is not the only one.And there are a few from the gulf war who are just as ruined. They deserve far more than they can get.Ask a few vets who sacrificed their lives so you could spit on them.It is not the LITTLE GUY who is at falt here nor the spitter.

My brother was there the first time and now he's back again. He wasn't homeless the first time and he won't be homeless this time. I'm not sure who this question is directed toward. I'm thinking that a lot of the people on this site are much too young to remember Vietnam. I was a young child during the war and remember nothing. I've never spit upon anyone and I hope I never have occasion to do so.

Wow! Do you believe that all veterans and farmers are homeless? I don't. I was a young teen during the Vietnam war. I remember then coming home and getting nothing for their sacrifices, but to spit on them? No way, sister! I agree that that time was a time in the US history, where we should be ashamed. They do deserve to be hailed as great men and women who did what our country asked them to do. Just like these who are serving now in Iraq. The times are different. We didn't want to be in Vietnam. I remember the sit-ins and the shootings at the university. America was different then. Now, because the war came on our own soil, we are willing to support them.
I understand that you may know someone or served yourself in Vietnam, but don't come here and assume that ALL Americans are disgraceful enough to spit on those who did what was right.
As far as the farmers go...Unfortunately, like everything else, they are taken advantage of. It has been that way forever.
What can we do to help the homeless, is more the question that I would like answered. I have worked in shelters and seen them. Empty eyed and soulless. I have done what I could do. All humans deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

i don't think so, most of the soldiers there are reservist, they have jobs and family's to come home to. in Nam, most of those kids were coming home to start a life, for them it was much different. i hope we have learned from that, it not their war, they didn't start it, and like most soldiers, they had to go.

Not everyone is like that!
It's because there have been so many people who pretend to be poor that really are not that make it difficult for us to give, because you can never really know.
