I don't think abolishing religions would do. Are you saying all Atheists are peaceful? I believe in God and at the same time very peaceful! :D

People should stop trying to convert others to their belief system.

Start by bringing peace to yourself. You can't bring peace to the outside until you are peaceful on the inside.
This is not an easy thing for most people to do.
When you reach a state of peace and benevolence, where you love everyone and don't judge, you are kind and generous, and have a good heart and a good soul, then your very example will change the lives of everyone you meet.
Then they will influence people in their lives and the chain will continue.

Religion is really only a secondary cause of violence/warfare throughout history. The primary cause is POWER - for which Man has used religion LONG before any of the "modern" religions ever evolved. Religion is a source for control of the few over the many.
This is not anti-religious rhetoric...it's archaeological, anthropological, historical fact.
