She's been cruising along furniture since 11 months and is getting really quick at it. She's just lacking strength in her hips and legs to bear weight to walk. She has an appointment with her pediatrician on Jan. 30th. I, then, plan on discussing this.

My son started walking at 8 months, my niece didn't start until she was 19 month (nothing wrong with her) My bro didn't start until he was 16 m. I did not even crawl, I just had my but up in the air (pics are funny) then started at 9. every child is different. And for the shoes...it's harder for them to learn how to walk prop with shoes on (then can't even grasp the floor with their toes or balance prop.) Be patient, preemies usually grow up pretty health and tall. Once she starts walking watch out. Oh and also, boys motor skills usually are stronger than girls though girls verbals are usually stronger.. Please don't worry so much. I know how it is .....

I would ask your OT (occupational therapist) or PT (physical therapist) what they think you could do to speed up the process? I am assuming that your weekly therapy is with an occupational or physical therapist. If your therapy is with a pediatrician you need to find an OT or PT. Since she was premature you will have to expect delay but therapists are usually pretty insightful on how you can help them progress quicker.

As for shoes...it will depend on her and it's worth a try. I would recommend Stride Rite shoes they are very well made and have a good foundation for walkers and pre-walkers. Good luck.

She will need shoes when walking outside, but inside, you want her to be able to have the best "grasp" on the ground. Inside, you can have her walk with no shoes, as she will be better able to feel the differences in the ground contact with no shoes on. Babies have an easier time learning to walk if they have nothing cumbersome on their feet. The only time you'll want to have something on her feet to help her walk is if she requires ankle supports/braces if her muscles are not strong enough to support her weight, but your pediatrician will suggest that if needed.

Preemies take a little longer to do stuff...but, once they get it..they GOT it!
If she's in Therapy, what does the Therapist say about shoes?
Unless her feet are deformed, you shouldn't have to get her special shoes...
Trust me, 1 day, she's gonna be cruzing the couch or wall, and your gonna walk out of the room and say, 'come on, and you'll turn around, and their she'll be..FOLLOWING you by herself!

merely supply her a even as. i might want to bypass ahead and ask the physician. At 13 mos our toddler change into not pulling up and may want to do the splits mid-air quite than help her weight on her legs. This worried her physician. He had us contact a actual therapist and suggested merely supply her a even as. She checked her out to verify not something change into bodily incorrect such as her. She is 16 mos previous and he or she will be able to pull up and walk such as her toy and he or she will be able to face without conserving on to at least something for some sec. wish this allows!

She'll walk when she is ready, but if you have concerns, your can always talk to her doc, I've know someone who could not walk till they were 6 and the doctor's did not know why, now he is 32 and can is the goalie of a soccer team!!!

Give her some time.. some babies dont walk until 2 years
Depending on how tall she is she may need shoes if she can stand to begin balancing etc.

I would say yes. I think if you have her wear them for a little while each day she'll get used to them and it won't be such a shock for her to adjust to in the future.
