FrontPage Magazine: You make the shrewd observation of how political correctness engenders evil because of “the violence that it does to people’s souls by forcing them to say or imply what they do not believe, but must not question.” Can you talk about this a bit?

Theodore Dalrymple: Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.

Political correctness is a social gag order, so the few can continue with their evil doings, while the many watch helplessly.

But there is no substitute for common sense, and basic moral character that dictates ethical speech towards others.

I'm an Atheist but I agree with you Political Correctness is backdoor oppression. I believe the true way to deal with issues like bigotry is to deal with it head on, not to merely bury it under the carpet.

Otherwise it's like there's an elephant in the room and everyone is pretending to ignore it. Everybody looks the otherway while it poops on the floor and eats the drapes because nobody wants to get in trouble for being the guy who hollared Hey there' s a big ol' elephant in here and he's eating the drapes and pooping on the floor. Because then he or she will be charged with the task of making the elephant leave.

I was going to remark that Christian Brothers makes a decent wine until I actually read your question. Which, really, can be addressed to the population at large, not just those deluded by religion. I tend to agree with Dalrymple about PC, and happily spear it whenever the opportunity arises.

On another note altogether, I highly recommend:

Yet we live in America and do have freedom of speech. Shouldn't we as Christians be more concerned with the atrocities committed by people claiming to do it for the Prince of Peace? For example what about those people going to soldiers funerals saying God hates America because we have gay people and choose to treat them with respect. The government does not concern me as far as my spirituality but if they started breaking all the bones in our feet as we were walking to towns evangelizing like they did to of friend of friend's uncle in China then I would worry. This will not happen here as we the constitution gives us freedom to worship or not. Just like God.

'Political correctness' is a code word for 'liberal' which is a code word for Democrat.

The brainwashed love these code words because it simplifies difficult and complex questions.

That's why you only generalized in your 'question'. You make one generalization after another until magically political correctness/liberals/Democrats are "evil".

Get a clue my friend.

Jesus was never politically correct. He told it like it is, like it or not.
