I am a single mother with no male influence around... My son is going to be 2 on the 17th of Jan, and he hates nappies, he is continually taking them off and when i do put them on him he just grabs at them and shows discomfort... He loves undies, but he still has accidents which is expected. I have a toddlers toilet seat and i take him to the toilet every 20 minutes or so... are there any suggestions or advice on how to go about toilet training him in an effective but patient way? any serious advice would be appreciated...

I have a stepping stool aswell but he is still too short to use it effectively. He goes around naked alot of the time. I dont have any male figures in his life that can show him how its done. He absolutely hates nappies, but loves undies he gets excited about whereing them and he even brings them out to me to put on him. I praise him and encourage him and make a big deal when he goes to the toilet, and then he gets happy and excited...

He's right on the verge of getting it. Keep him in the underwear as much as you can (or nakey) and a good way to get him to understand to stand up and pee is everytime you run the bathwater, they usually have to go right when they are undressing or right when they step in. Have him stand next to the toilet to pee just before getting in the tub. It may take a few tries, and once he does it, have a BIG BIG celebration and he'll catch on! You're so almost there!!!

Have you tried letting him run around naked? We are potty trainig our little boy now, and he goes almost 100% if he is naked -- maybe it is the feel of the air or something. Once we put underwear on, he forgets and usually will pee them. We are also encouraging him and praising him when he goes, but not repremanding if he has an accident -- they supposedly will be completely trained when they are ready on thier own terms. We don't use any kind of toddler seat, he just climbs on the regular toilet (but sits backward to pee). I have also heard that for a boy, using a cheerio can be fun because they can practice trying to hit it in the toilet. We have never done this, but it may work for you! Good luck!

Just be careful with the toddler seat if it is one of those ring things that go on the toilet. I read an article before about a little boy that hurt his privates when he was sliding off of it when he was done. Make sure there are no jagged seams. I can't find the article now, darn it!
Sorry that wasn't your question......As for advice, I'm not sure. My son was almost 3 when I trained him, and he wouldn't wet his pants. I'd keep up the work of taking your son to the toilet every so often. Just be consistant and it will all pay off.

Hello,
I have two children, 6 and 4, with both of them, I waited till they were ready, never used the pull ups because they are to much like diapers. They just went straight to underwear, before we started I would talk about going to the potty and using big boy underwear. Finally, as a reward for being dry, I would buy them a new set of underwear each week they were dry. they would get so excited that they got to pick out a new character at the end of the week. Moral of the story wait till he is truly ready you will have less accidents. My kids were both three when we started But much easier than when I tried at a younger age. Good luck !

First of all toss out that "toddler's toilet seat". There aren't going to be any in school when he starts so he might as well get used to using a regular toilet. If he is "stil having accidents" then he hasn't learned how to control his bladder and is NOT ready to potty train. The reason he takes of the diapers has nothing to do with him not liking wearing diapers (2 year olds don't have adult minds) All he knows is that he prefers hit BUTT to be BARE just about ALL toddlers do. That is why little toddler girls will strip naked if allowed to. They weren't born with clothes on. Or diapers.

in all seriousness let him sit on the potty and try making a game of it. as well you can reward him like with a star chart and tell him every time he goes he gets a star. and when the stars are filled take him to get new big boy undies. as well let him choose the undies. encouragement is the best thing

It just takes time and you have to stay with it, my son like to stand and pee, so we got him a stepping stool so he could reach the potty and he like that so much and he always wanted go to tee tee. He said he was a big boy now and he like the big potty better then toddler potty. Good luck!!!

Try cheerios or fruit loops. Make a game of hitting every single one, whether you put just one in at a time or a handful.
