Over the course of six months or so, I have noticed a large portion of my inner thigh (a bit of of the rest of the thigh) covered with dark red lines, starting from the top of the inner thigh to halfway to my knee at the most. These lines have spread a bit and gotten a bit darker, thus the concern I am expressing now. I have never felt any pain, numbness, or odd sensation from this area.
Can anybody identify what is causing this? I do have to admit, my thighs do rub when I walk, but there are these red lines on areas where my thighs never even touch.

Some important things I have to add:
To rule out pregnancy, I am a male. And I am in my mid-adolescent years and have put on less than 20 pounds of weight since these marks appeared.
Chaffing and stretch marks sound probable. One thing to mention is that there are no bumps: the skin is smooth around the area with the marks and the marks appear on the surface the skin.
Perhaps I should consider thigh exercises to control the size?

To add on the chaffing: the skin surface itself is completely smooth, no indication of being too dry or over-rubbed (to the suggestion of using lotion).

I had this problem too. Do look like scars and wrinkle much more than the surrounding skin when you distort the skin with your fingers? When they wrinkle do they look crinkly and slightly folded? Do new red marks show up on the edges of old ones? Are they either raised or slightly concave? If these are like what you are experiencing then you probably have stretchmarks. When I hit puberty everything grew too quickly on me and I got these all over. Especially the inner thigh, breasts, and hip area. This is normal since that is where weight gain can show a lot, but it scared the hell out of me beucase they are so unsightly, dark, and I never experienced them before.
So yeah, if you sound like what I explained (aside from the puberty part since ur a guy and I'm a girl) then you probably have stretchmarks. These won't go away as they are scars, but don't worry they will lighten with time and be the same color as the rest of your skin. Maybe a little different, and always a tad shinier.
There are some creams that can help reduce the unsightliness, I suggest you look into them more. Really the best thing though, if these arent stretchmarks as I've explained them, is to go to the doctor because this could be a sign of something much worse.
I've included a link to a picture of stretchmarks so you can compare. There is also a sight on stretchmarks with descriptions much more accurate than my own. Despite the fact that it is a baby site, it provides some good information nonetheless.
Even if they aren't raised on the skin it doesn't necessarily rule out stretchmarks. You may also have vericose veins (spider veins). I'd really check with a doctor if it is concerning you this badly, maybe even consult a local pharmacy or call a hospital for some more clinical information that won't cost you anything. Becuase really, none of us are doctors, and this may be a health issue best left to the professionals.

They sound like spider veins. Usually harmless, but you might want to go to a doctor to make sure your circulation is working properly. They can also be removed by laser if they bother you. Don't stand or sit for extended periods of time without giving your legs a break if you can help it.

They are stretch marks. My sister has them from her inner thighs to just above her knee. They do fade to a lighter color over time. Are you pregnant or just had a baby?

After 10 years of struggling with all sorts of creams and pills to treat this embarrassing problem I was able to get rid of my varicose veins by using natural healing methods and alternative herbal home remedies.
Read Diane Thompson's "Varicose Veins Secrets" (also available in electronic format at: http://www.varicoseveinscure.org ). By following this guide book I was able to eradicate my varicose veins pretty fast. God bless!

Have you put on weight lately. If so, the red lines could be stretch marks. You may want to try drinking lots of liquids and using lotion.

sounds like superficial vein thrombophlebitis, an inflammation of the superficial veins in your thighs caused by the repeated trauma of your thighs rubbing together. or the beginning of varicose veins. your obviously overweight. do you have high blood pressure? you need to see a doctor for treatment though neither condition is particularly serious. at least at this stage. of course varicose veins if untreated for a long time can have very serious consequences.

These may be caused whent the skin stretches or when one loses an enormous amount of weight. I have the same problem, except mine aren't so red, but light pink.
