I can write a book and call it the word of god, in fact many people have, and not just the bible. That doesn't make the statement any more true. I can call an apple a car, that doesn't make it a car.
I was inspired to write this message, does that mean it's the word of god?

Do non believers understand that we have been inspired and lead by the Holy Spirit to read the word of God? Do they realize the men that wrote the Bible were also inspired? Do they realize the context of the Bible is spread over 100's of years and yet speaks of itself, through itself? Do they realize that the Bible is the only known text that has been translated into every language and still holds it's integrity with it's original script? Do non-believers understand that all Jesus wants is a personal relationship with them?
Sorry . . I could go on forever.
Funny thing. I was kind of agnostic for a while. Now I don't realize why I can't explain the joy I have in my life . . . even though this has been the toughest path I've ever chosen.

Well, some actually believe that it was written directly by God. But that's not very common. Most Christians do understand it was written by man...yes.
One theory is that the Bible is inspired by God.
Another is that God told the authors exactly what to write.
Some say that it could be flawed. Some say it's perfect.
If your looking for a concensus between all Christians, it's not going to happen.
Basically any question beginning with "Do Christians...." maybe ought to be rephrased. There's really only a few things I think all Christians ought to agree on, and I'm not foolish enough to actually expect it to happen.

Peace!
I agree with you. Surprised?
Catholic dogma says the Bible is the word of God in the words of men. Does this mean that every statement in the Bible is divine teaching ? Of course not. The Bible does not always teach. There are many statements in its various books that are there for historical, geographical, poetic or other reasons. However, whenever a biblical author intends to teach us something, the Holy Spirit intends that too. Everything that the Bible teaches is without error, but everything is not meant as teaching. Each author was left free by the Lord to express himself according to the ideas of his own day. It is the revelation in the scriptures that is important.

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" -2 Tim. 3: 16, 17
Let me ask you this: When you write a letter do you write it or does the pen write it? Do you seriously think that an Almighty God is not capable of preserving His infallible Word in writing regardless of whom He chooses as an instrument? The very words of God Himself are recorded in the Bible. Every single word of The Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. Those who wrote the Bible were the pens in the hand of the Author.
PS. The Bible never contradicts itself. You might think something is a contradiction when in fact it is merely the same story told by two different people from two different perspectives. The same as a single news story is told by two different reporters from two different perspectives might sound like a contradiction.

Everything that was written in the Bible by men over a period of about 1500 years, came to pass in the lifetime of one very special man, Jesus Christ, who fulfilled all that was written about him in the law, the prophets, and the psalms.
The world has never been the same since.
Mere men do not have the power to do this, so the conclusion is a simple one.
God inspired men to write the sacred scriptures.
Whatever they set to writing was done exactly as God intended it, and without error, for the purpose of our salvation.
Any apparent inconsistencies or issues that some people have with the Bible result from either false teachers, simple misunderstandings, or misapplication.
But that is a whole different subject!

Hi tiger,
Good question.
God's Holy Spirit fills the writers of His Word with the knowledge and wisdom to pen it to paper. Thus it becomes the inspired Word through God.
Remember Moses up on the mountain for 40 days. God spoke and Moses wrote the entire time. There is God's Word written by man.
We can continue to nit pick the Bible and or Scriptures till its too late. what we now get is an E ticket ride with Satan and his fallen angels doing the driving. This will be Hell.
I do hope I have been able to help you and anyone else out there.><>

No they dont understand that because while technically it was written by man, every word of it was from God. GRAPHE THEOPNEUSTOS all scripture is god breathed. Its only written once in the bible and thats all it has to be written. It was a phrase used only once by paul in II Tim 3:16

Unfortunately, most do not. They believe that God told men what to write and that this is how the Bible came to be.
