Pascal's wager:
"If god exists, it's infinitely better to believe, since you get heaven instead of hell for eternity. If he doesn't, it doesn't matter since you're dead anyway. So overall it's better to believe"
This is, of course, false.
Some of the problems with the argument:
* The implied assumption that god may exist (with a 50% probability, no less!)
* The assumption that there is an afterlife with a heaven and hell
* The assumption that the god cares about belief in him/her above all else
* The assumption that if you believe in a god, it will definitely be the same god that actually exists.
* The assumption that you lose nothing if it's false. You have lost a great deal, from time praying to a nonexistent entity (somebody mentioned just today praying several hours a day!!!) to morality (your god may ask you to hurt other people) and much more besides.
* The assumption that people can believe in something simply because it benefits them. Would you believe goblins exist for twenty bucks? Why not?
* The assumption that any god won't see through the "believing just to get into heaven" ploy.

Interesting question...first, the problem with beliefs in general IS that there are too many religions and too little spirituality.
I once knew a woman who liked to "spew" her "religiousity" at all times - but was without doubt the least Christ-like Christian I have ever had the displeasure to meet. Just to annoy her, I once commented that she would be terribly surprised to find a great number of Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Wiccans, etc IF she actually made it through the Pearly Gates. No, I was never really one of her favorite people - HA!

That's a pretty big if....
It also implies that the only reason you are worshiping God is because the fear of Judgement Day is too great. You'd rather worship something that you don't know factually exists because you fear the consequences. Shouldn't worshiping God be about love? Because you feel so connected with Him that you know no other way to express such a love? Being afraid of not worshiping Him is sort of halfassed...
Yes I am Christian.

It's easier to not believe in a god than it is to do so.
When you're at the alter of god on judgement day, let's hope you chose the right god out of the thousands available out there. I think there are about 10,000 to choose from. What will be YOUR excuse when you find that your god was the false one?

I would likely be shocked to find that an isolated tribe in the Amazonian rainforest were the only ones to get it right and god really was a Toad Skinned Giant Cannibal Sloth with a totally un pronouncable name. How are you going to feel just before the Invisible Pink Unicorn grinds you beneath her holy hooves, eh.

According to Christians God is very forgiving and will judge everyone by what is on their heart. In other words by what is on your conscience. If your conscience is clear I think you'd be all right.
The Zohar of Kabala says that this is hell and we will just get sent back until we get it right. Howver, some Zohar state that if signifacant progress is not acheived over a period of three incarnations you can be sent to an even lower existance than here.

This is called Pascal's wager. The flaw with your argument is any religion can use it. If Zeus exists and you face him on judgement day then what would be your excuse?
When you understand why you don't believe in Zeus you'll understand why Atheists don't believe in any Gods.

You did not show yourself to me, GOD. And the people who profess your existence greatly, are the ones who created the chaos on earth. Each one of them are not just so confusing. They told me you gave us FREE WILL but when they cannot solve their problem they say it GOD'S WILL. Each one says if you do not belong to their religion, you will go to hell. At least I am happy, since I did not believe in any of them, I am now here facing you and they are all in hell because they are all true to what they said. Now that I see you, I hope it is not late to believe in you.

Did you forget the good samaritains didnt have a religion? what makes you the judge and jury of what happens to atheists when they die? let them be, if theyre happy with where they are (and that obviously bugs you) let them live thier lives in peace.
PS God guided me to Taoism and thats why im not a *saved christian* if you have a problem with that take it up with God.

More fear-mongering. Seriously, is Judgement Day the only thing in your arsenal?
Faced with proof that god existed, I would then believe that he existed. If that wasn't good enough for him, then I wouldn't want to spend eternity with him, because if he was too stupid to understand that if you don't show yourself, people won't believe that you exist, he's too stupid for me to want to be around him.
