200 years ago, the Bible was unchallenged. With science, Christians have had to reinterpret a lot of the bible in order to still be a Christian. Is there a limit? I mean, is there some basic concrete aspects of the bible that can not be twisted at least a little?

Nope. Even the "concrete bases" of the bible that you are studying now aren't really concrete. Religion has always changed and adapted through time, according to the people and circumstance. Although, the core of Christianity isn't how many times you go to church or the rituals you perform. The core of it is being a good person.

Which of course, you can be, without being Christian, so maybe I'm wrong anyway...

Unchallenged? lol - the Bible has been one of the most hottly debated books of the last 2000 years. Look at all the schisms in the church - all brought through challenge.

People are constantly interpretting the bible to suit their needs - whether it's the ministers who want donations or the parents who want well behaved kids or the meek looking for hope.

Yes, there are basic concrete concepts of that bible that can't be twisted - and they are largely the same as in every other organized religion: There is an afterlife, here's how to get there. Be kind to people (often easily summed up with the Golden Rule). You are in contact with "home" - here's how you do it (prayer, meditation, intentioning, etc.).

If you want to see some real twisting, talk to people about statistics. There is documented information that is constantly being contorted and twisted to suit the speaker.

Peace!

i have bent nothing in the Bible, it is true, was true, and will always be true.

Please do some research before you display your ignorance with a question like this. Science was born out of the Christianity. It was not until Europe was converted that the scientific revolution began.
Many of the great scientists and mathematicians were fundamental Christians who study the world around them in an attempt to better understand the fingerprints of God. Without Christianity, we would still be worshiping trees and fearing to cut them down.

ACtually science proves the bible true more every day...do some more homework!

As science became more sophisticated, researchers developed coherent theories about the workings of matter and energy.

The largest advancements in developing the Laws of Thermodynamics occurred in the mid-1800s. James Prescott Joule proved experimentally that work energy and heat energy are interchangeable and are conserved. His experiment used a falling weight that drove a paddle underwater. The potential energy lost by the weight as it fell matched the heat energy gained by the water. These findings were verified independently by other scientists around the same time. So was born the First Law of Thermodynamics, the principle of conservation of energy.

Not long after, Robert Clausius developed his theories about heat and work into a concise version of the Second Law of Thermodynamics, concerning the increase of entropy in natural systems. This description was derived over the course of more than a decade of writing and experimentation. Clausius depended heavily on the findings of researchers such as Joule.

The history of the Laws of Thermodynamics reveals more than just how science described a set of natural laws. It can teach us a great deal about our pride in "Modern Science." The Laws of Thermodynamics were in effect long before they were written in textbooks or derived in laboratories. They were as valid and real as gravity, magnetism, or DNA. And yet there was a time when brilliant men and women, using their generation's most sophisticated science, had no idea that they were true.

Every civilization's idea of "Modern Science" once supported concepts as wrong as an unmoving Earth, orbited by the Sun. It claimed that heat was an invisible fluid, or that only males held the components for human life. Scientists developed these theories based on the data that they had at the time - theories that were sometimes proven false. They believed these things because their science led them to that belief. They didn't have perfect or absolute proof, but they could make the data fit their beliefs.

Sometimes faith in science can lead brilliant men to believe things that are not true, because they haven't seen everything that science - or the universe - has to show them. Lord William Thomson Kelvin, for whom the Kelvin temperature scale is named, stated in 1895, "Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible." One of the greatest scientists of all time was proven wrong, along with many of his colleagues, just eight years later by the Wright Brothers. There are many popular and widely accepted theories that science cannot prove beyond doubt. Yet, the way they interpret the evidence is good enough for some people to put their faith in. There is great danger in ignoring evidence that contradicts a scientific theory, claiming that the theory is "Modern Science," and so it must be true. What would Lord Kelvin say to that? Like the Laws of Thermodynamics themselves, there have been some powerful, universal, undeniable truths that science has been wrong about in the past. What theories and ideas does "Modern Science" claim today that might not be true? Are there any views of the universe that haven't proven false?

Sir or mam(whichever you are) let me tell you that there is nothing you or anyone else can say or do that will cause me to give up on GOD. HE never gave up on me.
Unless YOU have an extensive knowledge of the BIBLE then why do you think we "bend" anything? If you do have extensive knowledge then you must know that The Bible never contradicts itself and that it is true.

No bending needed. Only belief/faith.
Q: Man says "seeing is believing". The Christian says "believing is seeing". Without faith you will not be able to see the Christian point of view. God Bless.

For me there are many bible principals that can never be changed. God is Love for example. The bible is not and was never meant to be a science book. Science is good too as God created all those principles as well. The bible was never meant to challenge science it was meant to challenge all our arrogance and negative wrong beliefs. I mean it is not wrong to be angry but it is wrong to hold resentment. Anger is natural and resentment is as well. Anger can keep you from dying but resentment will kill you and harm others as well.

Whoa? Two hundred years ago? Think again. 2000 years ago the church spent the better part of 400 years "bending" as you would state. Try the Arian controversy.
Betteryet, try Jesus in Mt. 5 with the Judaic laws of Leviticus. Try Nahum vs. Isaiah over the same point of history.
Did you know people once sent telegrams - does email then bend the message?

Who's bending what? As a matter of fact Science is doing a great job proving how historically accurate the Holy Bible is. Recent archeological findings are working in the Bible's favor.

Yes they will keep God and Jesus, because God is improvable and believing in Jesus is necessary to be Christian, everything else can, has, and will be changed. Just look at all the different sects of Christianity.
