Public school is funded by the state so if there is truly supposed to be a separation of church and state then yes it should be left at home.
I wonder why people have to ask these questions. What about religion is going to help educate you? Religion does not teach you math. The one subject that religion would cross would be history and in that area if any religion is taught in school then all religions should be covered. If you notice when these type of topics of religion come up in history they are not covered, the only real coverage in the school books is the conservative Christians.
Hopefully everyone knows by now that the public schools are where we lose our childhoods and creativity. They do not teach they mold children to fit into society and not rock the boat. The children who continue to think for themselves and question authority are cast aside called misfits. We all just let it happen because the majority of people are too lazy to stand up for our selves.

Definantly! religion should be taught at home or not at all, and bringing a bible to school should either be forbidden or countered with the Hindu texts, the Muslims texts, the Jewish texts, the Pagan spell books etc.
however on the other hand: christians hate it when you teach about other religions besides thiers, you can always give a short summary about christianity, and then give about 2 weeks for every other religion but thiers, that will really ruffle thier holier than thou feathers.

There is no reason to keep any opinion about anything especially
religion out of school. School is where we teach people how to
learn and opinions are the subject.

It's just my opinion, but I would like to see them teach a class that covers an overview of some of the major religions. Let them get a "taste" of Christianity, Judaism, Muslim, Wicca, etc. After all, doesn't knowledge lead to better communication?
For the record, I'm an agnostic.

Religious opinion is part of the social consciouness and a great topic for debate, so I say it should be in schools. But religious opinion should be taught as just that, opinion. Creationism has no place in Biology. But it could be a very thought-provoking topic in social studies or philiosophy.

I only wish more true religious opinion were being taught in schools. Alot more 'turn the cheek' and 'love thy enemy' courses would do far more good than all the 'pledge of allegiances' and posting of ten commandments ever could.
But that would be actually following the teachings of one's supposed religion. Most 'followers' pick and choose what to teach, and ignore those that are 'inconvienent'.

Religion is in school, just not Christianity. When I went to my grandchildren holiday program. They had a song for every religion, but Christmas. Then people wounder why God is not blessing.Thank God I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. My grandchildren know the story of our savior.<><
By the way our youth Pastor is often called to the school to talk to the kids.He has been blessed to be able to lead many kids to Jesus.Los Angles has a major problem with gangs. We are blessed to have a Pastor who loves these kids.(high school)

Actually, we should be teaching our children how to reason and digest different opinions of any sort.
Dialogue and debate are good things if the environment is non-hostile to any one group.
