I assume that most of you would be repulsed, and perhaps even rebellious, to the idea of being the subject of a dictatorial government like that of Stalin, Hitler, Castro, Amin and so many other historic tyrant dictators.- all of whom refused to be questioned about their authority to rule and all of whom threatened the worst of punishments upon those who dared to challenge their demands.

Why then, are you willing to overlook the restrictive dictum of your right to question the highest powers of your belief when the very dictatorial nature of the holy books and the religious leaders of your faith use such damning threats against you - threats which are nearly similar to the worst Gestapo oppressiveness?

If you are not allowed to question anything freely are you not the subject of an oppressive dictatorship?

There are some God-based religions who do have that rigid legalistic philosophy of blind obedience. And your question is a valid one for them. Please don't lump all people who believe in God into one category. There are extremists in all areas of life. Most average Christians (means follower of Christ) do not believe that it is against the Bible to freely question every aspect of life, God, or whatever is of interest to that individual. Thus, being repulsed by a dictatorship is not diametrically opposed to having a God-based religious philosophy.

Strange - I'm reading Genesis just now and find out Jacob is named such because someone dropped a vowel out somewhere.
I'm reading Nahum and find there are insertions to try and make the 3 chapters look like 1.
My Bible is filled w/ printer *'s to indicate when alternative readings/texts are available.
I've been fairly high up your ladder of authority - can't find any threats to date except file my annual report.
I question everything back to the Gilgamesh Epic being the basis of Genesis 1 and Hurrian society the origin of the Flood.
If you are going to make sweeping statements about dirt, you are not going to have a very good discussion. Let's go!

My friend, you are deceived. I ask GOD questions all the time and I probably always will. Do I question that HE is who HE says HE is ? No. Do I question that HIS ways are higher than my ways

and HIS thoughts are higher than my thoughts? No.
Do I question why certain things happen? Yes. Does HE still love me? Yes. Have there been times in my life when I have wondered if HE was really there and if HE really cared? Yes. Does HE still love me? YES! Does HE love you even though it is clear to see that you do not give a fig about HIM? YES!

I cant tell you how much that makes sense. I will flood the world and you will love me for it. I will kill your first born. An all powerful entity which is not able to win us over with love. Sorry i had a dog that won me over with his love.

Not all religions threaten believers with Hell. Not even all Christian sects preach fire and brimstone. Modern Catholics, for example, hardly discuss Hell at all. Universalists are Christians, and they believe no one goes to Hell.
