Esp for online retailers. For ex. You bought a 250 dollar camera from amazon.com and then you switched it with a 20 dollar camera and returned it. Has anyone ever done this? You think you will be able to get away?

I think they'd be able to tell the difference. Most places won't credit you back your money until they've verified your return, anyway.

That being said, I did something similar--I bought a device from an online retailer that (for reasons that don't bear telling) I found out much later was defective. I went to my local Best Buy, bought the *identical* device, and the next day returned the broken device and got my money back. This was a relatively inexpensive device (it probably wouldn't work for game consoles or fancy cameras where the serial number is tracked), and basically I still paid for a product that worked...I just avoided the hassle of trying to rectify the defect with the online retailer.

Nope, I hate retailers ripping me off, and conversely I would never rip them off, it's just who I am.

I highly doubt you could get away with this, but there are stupid people out there. I'm amazed everyday.
