It seems that everytime I get on here, Religion is basically mocked, or even ridiculed by some of the "Questions" on here. I mostly see a "War" between Athiests, who simply believe Science disproves "God" and the nature of man. That we live just to die. On the other side, Some "Christians" tend to refute, saying "God through Jesus." Life is after death. But the thing is both are "Pushing", leaving hardly any room for "Debate"(Although some answers I do find interesting from both sides. Even the more common and grammaricly, um "Challenged.") Now personally I do believe in God but I try not to force it. It is better to try to make somebody understand as a friend than an enemy. (Common sense) Methinks we should stick to more real topics to debate and not the "Would jesus shoot an atheist" (Notice I spelled it right this time only) debacle. Oh by the way. Here's a Q 4 U: In your mind, what determined that there is no God? What was the, "Eye opener" so to speak?

=)

I am a fundamental Biblical Christian (saying that so you understand where I am coming from).

Put yourself in my shoes for a moment. Let's say that I know you are poisoned and you are about to die. I have the antidote in my hand. I didn't make the antidote, I just stumbled upon one day as I lay dying of the same poison you have. So I try to give you the antidote and you refuse me. You tell me you like the poison, or that you're not really poisoned, or that you don't believe the antidote I have will really work. Or maybe you tell me you've got another antidote that is much better. But I know from experience that the antidote in my hand is the only one that is going to save you.

That is why I personally get so passionate about my answers on this board. I honestly believe I have the antidote that will cure you (not because I'm so special, keep in mind I was dying of the same poison you have, and I didn't find or make the antidote, He found me) and I am fighting for your life. Religion is a passionate topic, don't expect most people to be light hearted about it.

Fool entering where angels fear to tread. It sounds like your question is for the Atheist, but having been on both sides I will answer. I was as a teen very religious but not with any church because my parents did not want me to be a RC. In my early 20's I went to catechism in the RC church and the result of that was that I was left with a dilemma. I was going to be damned either way. Long story. But the net result was that I decided rationally that there was no God. I lived the next 8 years of my life as a very bitter Atheist and persecuted the Christians, especially the bible thumpers who always wanted to show how much holier than thou they were and tell me that I was going to hell.

Then when my mother was dying something happened to show me that God was real. I then made a decision that the RC church had fallen into error and that it would be OK to join something else. I chose the Episcopal Church and was baptized at the age of 30.

I think that many time well meaning Christians turn people away from God by the way they talk to them. It would be nice if we could all be a bit more civil here. And that goes to talking to people of other religions too. We can learn so much here, since there are people from all over the world. But if we have WWIII and a 1000 trolls, that turns people away too.

Your grammariciousness is grammaricly grammarlicious. Sorry. I just could not resist that.

Answering your Question: What convinced me that "God is not" was that when I was very small a school teacher (kindergarten) taught us about the Lords prayer and she told us to say it at night just before bedtime.
I did this that very night. As I prayed I could feel the presence of God growing stronger. I knew God was in the room as I finished the prayer!
However the moment I finished praying the "Monster From Under My Bed" immediately attacked God, and with the help of his pack of evil dust bunnies killed God and ate Him.
It was truly an "Eye opener" so to speak.

In a field of flowers, why do you notice only those that are brighter or different than the others? Is religion mocked here more than anywhere else, or respected here less than anywhere else?

Even 'asinine' questions serve their purpose. There are many 'followers' of Jesus (and Mohammed, and Yahweh, etc) on these boards, but only a few of them are 'classically' defined as such. A mountain is a mountain, is more than a mountain, and yet is still a mountain.

The Holy Spirit confimed my belief in God and the wisdom of Jesus. , and my assurance for eternal life after my stay here on Earth.. .... And, If I might add: There were no Bubba Preachers around at the time. I was just reading Jesus' messages in the Bible. One verse he would send the Holy Spirit to witness the validity. So, I was alone, and I simply asked the Holy Spirit, "How about it, can you witness?" And wham, all alone reading Jesus' words ........ mental, emotional, physical (within my body) ... crying a happy assurance of Heaven. --- No one else was with me, no Bubba Preacher, no Deacon, and no Bible Salesman.

Well, that was my eye opener, (after all you did ask).

Strange thing about the Holy Spirit: It has never witnessed to me about the validity of other verses in the Bible. Just the verses spoken by Jesus.

You make a good point, and I do agree there could be a positive dialog where both sides learn something. But there is that pesky human nature to get around. Most folks are content to put their opinions out there and call it a day.

What determined that there is a god? Absolutely nothing. The world is full of tradegies to innocent people. Atheists do not cause war, almost every war has been over religion. Not over science. Get your facts straight. You close minded fool.

I agree with you. I would like to see more questions seeking answers than all the bantering, trolling, etc. But, hey...I don't make the rules...I don't let myself get angry about any of it...I try to answer if I can...and try not to be too suprised by what I read sometimes. :-) I don't think this should be a place for debate personally...

Well this is the Religious/Spiritual section. It's only appropriate we talk about Religious matters. I'm still clueless as to why so many Atheists devote so much time and effort on a matter that they dont believe in.
