Every time somone blows themselves up these days, too many say "Oh, its not the religion, its just a culteral thing." Muslims wont allow dogs in their cabs? Its cultural! Not all Muslims think that way!
Well this may be true, but not all christians believe in the pope. English catholics thing the Queen is the head of the church. So, therefore the pope must just be a culteral icon, as not all christians believe in him. Never name the Orthodox beliefs on the pope.

Well, there is a definite sect that believe in the ability of the pope, and a large sect at that, while all large sects of Islam have differing views on something. Your example doesn't prove a seperate instance to be a cultural thing. For example, I could say a taste for beef jerky is a cultural thing, and many people dislike beef jerky, while still being christian. Someone else could show me that no Jianists like beef jerky, but that wouldn't prove that liking or not beef jerky has anything to do with christianity. Likewise, you can say that 99% of the population of Saudi Arabia is Muslim, does that mean that everything that occurs in Saudi Arabia has to religion because only Muslims do it?... I think not.
Giving an example for christianity does not mean that blowing people up has direct connections with the religion of Islam, as people at the top of those terrorist organizations change the message for those organizations and misslead people. I can also say christ said we should beat women, and get a group following me, would that mean that wife beating is a christian practice? Likewise, I could say the story of Jesus at the well with the Simeritan woman means that women should always get men drinks in christianity, and that christ was the exception, does this mean that christianity as a whole believes this (the equivelant of some of the opression of women in Islam).

The reason we say its not the religion is because the Quran speaks against these things and many views are based on biased reporting by the media. The reason for militants within Islam is occupation by Western Powers. Muslim countries that are not occupied are secular and stable.
Actually Somali the Islamic Courts Government brought about stabilty and peace by providing justice and law in a region through Somali civilian support. Shortly after the stabilty took hold and the Somali had a strong hold govenment, the U.S. suddendly found it necessary to send in troops to overthrow the govenment
that was only guilty of providing a stable country finally for a distressed people without an organized nation.
Palestine is an occupied land, before the occupation by the European forces, Jew, Christians, and Muslims lived peacefully tougether.
