You have read the Bible how many times?? True, God IS jealous. He is jealous and will take vengeance on His adversaries. In other words, God desires that we worship no other, so called gods,- nothing else but Him alone. There is NO other God. So why would we worship anything else? To honor another person, to praise others, is fine. But to WORSHIP...that belongs to God alone. What is an unmoralistic value? I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about. God is vanity? Well, He created the world, is omnipresent, is the author of love, power, grace, intellect, and life itself. He is the only way to salvation and gave His life through Jesus, so we could attain it. Maybe He justly deserves a little vanity. But, I don't think that that title fits. Did God do good (good doer) for mankind? Read the Bible and see if what God has done, and still does, for mankind.is good and for our benefit..

Well, I've read the Bible twice a year for over a dozen years. It has all the things you speak of because it was written by humans filtering God's truth through human experiences.
The Bible is a marvelous blend of poetry, history, prophecy, wisdom literature, morality play and the like. There are many ways in which the author attempted to convey the Truth. There is not one place where it claims to be infallible or literal.
Who am i to so interpret God's word? One who, like Luther, believes the Bible holds the Word of God as the manger held the Christ Child. Both have chips and splinters.
It is fairly easy to interpret God's Word as human writ by reading any reputable commentary. We don't even know how to translate some of the words yet!
Why write a disclaimer when one never considers it necessary or likely to be needed?
You ask great questions. Keep reading.

The Bible is filled with sinners (except Jesus) yes. These sinners were written about as examples to us about sin and God's forgiveness (and sometimes consequences for sin). God's word was written so we could relate to it. When you read about people sinning in the Bible it's easier to see yourself when what is being taught is written in a situational storyline. Some of the Bible is literal and some if figurative. Read it carefully, study each passage and soak up the knowledge.

All I know is that even tho I may not always be what I am supposed to be, God is everything He promised!
His Word is what is shared with believers as a path or a pattern of walk of faith.
If God says it is so, who am I to question it - when it proves itself true?!
In regard to the values, vengeance, jealousy and vanity to which you spoke - these are all qualities that mankind brought into the picture, thru his/her choices - obviously against God - for anything else brings Him glory.
The Bible needs no disclaimer for it proclaims Truth!!!

You have a lot of gall to ask this question, and particularly the part about who are you to interpret God that way! Who are YOU to interpret God in the way that you have? To call Him vain, and unmoralistic? You are correct about the Bible. It is to be taken very literally. When God created man, He put man in a place where all of his needs were met. Man would want for nothing. It was the hearts of men and women that were tainted with evil, and the disobedience of men that angered God in the first place. When God looked at all that He had created, He saw that it was very good. Satan came and tempted man through woman. It was an effective tool for Satan, and he still uses it to this day. But man's willingness to sin and live in iniquity is what brought about the wrath of God. Who are YOU to judge God? Do you not feel wrath when your children, that you provide everything for disobey you, and do as they please, knowing that it will cause you to be angry? Do you not punish them for doing such? There is very little about the Bible that I haven't read, and yes, I STILL marvel at the awesome wonder of our creator. He wants only for us to love Him, and prove that love by honoring and obeying Him. By judging God, you are judged by the Word, and rightly so. I would repent of this, and ask God's forgiveness if I were you. He will not be judged by men, but rather will be the judge of men.

What are you smoking? I've read it cover to cover at least 14 times. You just don't get it.The Bible is the only book that shows man as he really is.Any other culture portrays man as brave, heroic,on a quest and the "God's" keep tricking him.Yes,it's meant to be taken literally, where it's literal. There are Metaphors however. When Jesus says "How often would I have gathered you under my wings"....We know He wasn't a chicken.God certainly is not vain. What you're not getting is that sometimes God speaks to us ,so that we can understand,he uses examples called anthropomorphism's.

I am living proof that people read the entire bible and fall in love with the Author. Real life example right here - me! As for "unmoralistic values " - you have barely had a glimpse at human history with that vapour you call a lifetime and you dare judge Gods wisdom? I find it hard to believe people read it and don't get it. (might want to find a better word for unmoralistic too...lol)

Some of His ways are mystery to me as well. But in the new testament He reveals what love is and it is Him. Being a Christian I am to aspire to give this love freely as it has been given to me to all and as I am selfish and self seeking by nature it takes so much of my time begging God to remove my selfish nature and replace it with His loving nature that I scarce have time to wonder about the old testament. But yeah like when Lot tries to give his virgin daughters to the mob. Blows my mind as if I was in charge I would have addressed his heinous treatment of his children. But maybe there is just something I am not seeing because the story about Issac bothered me for years but now I see the moral. We should place God above all others and in doing so He will give us good things and let us keep them.

God is vengeful, he is jealous...but he is a loving God. Even with all that is in the Bible God has a purpose for us.
I know that it seems that he is hateful and cruel...but he gave us life and everything we have. Take the Bible at it's every word and it will save you.

God created the world perfect. We chose to sin. If we could not chose sin we could not chose love! There were definitely some ugly times however if you look into them in there full context with understanding (as best we can) they do make sense.....try a book called A Case For Faith, Lee Strobel
