Praying the rosary is non-scriptural (that is, it is not mentioned in scripture). That doesn't mean that it is UN-scriptural (that is, in disobedience to scripture or some scriptural principle.)

Let's see, while you pray the Rosary, you are to meditate on either the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful or Glorious Mysteries. All of these mysteries are actually four sets of five parts of the Gospels (especially Matthew and Luke, and one set of verses from Acts). That sounds pretty scriptural to me. According to Church Tradition, Mary appeared to Saint Dominic de Guzman and told him about the Rosary and ask him to pray this instead of the 150 Psalms (from "Catholicism for Dummies").

The Church sees nothing wrong with the Rosary so long as you focus on the mysteries that each cover. Also, it's a devotional and not mandatory to pray. If something about it bothers you as a Catholic, you may choose not to pray it.

Yes, it is -- because it's prayer, and prayer is very Scriptural.

Also, almost all of the Mysteries of the Rosary depict events in the lives of Jesus and Mary that are described clearly in the New Testament.

That's all the more reason why praying the Rosary is very Scriptural.

No, praying the rosary is not scriptural and it is a sin for three basic reasons:

1) It is repetitious praying. Jesus told His disciples in Matt 6:7 not to pray repetitiously as the heathen do thinking that they will be heard for their many words. To pray repetitiously is to do what Jesus said not to do. That is a sin.

2) Repetitious praying also shows a lack of faith. The Word of God says that without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6)

3) Jesus said that when you pray go to God the Father in His name and He will answer you (John 16:23-24). Jesus never told His disciples or anyone else to pray to any dead saint. Nowhere in the Bible, Old or New Testament, is any prayer offered to a dead saint.

In the Hail Mary prayer you are asking Mary to pray for you, a sinner. She has now become a mediator for you in Heaven.

1 Tim 2:5 says that "there is one mediator between God and man the man Christ Jesus."

Jesus is your mediator in Heaven not Mary. If you pray to Mary to meditate for you instead of Jesus then you have placed her above Jesus and have made her into a god. This is idolatry. Idolatry is a sin.

Praying the rosary is not scriptural and to do so would be a sin.

If you consider meditating on Scripture while praying prayers found in Scripture to be Scriptural, then yes.

Why wouldn't it be? Because the Hail Mary is there along with the Lord's Prayer?
