because they have the less proportion of melanin in them. the color of skin , hair, etc depends on the proprtion of melanin . melanin is a pigment synthesised by the body. if there is more exposure to sunlight then more melanin is synthesised. since in forien contries the temp is low less amount of pigment is synthesised. and lesser the pigment, less dark is the color of hair. etc.got it?

I agree with Mintee. There are a number of ways that we can take an educated guess as to their color. One is how they are painted on the walls, as mentioned above. Another way is by facial features in the same way that forensic anthropologists can reconfigure a face to identify remains. Each race has certain characteristic that can be physically measured from the skull up. After that it is based on what we know of races today. For instance, a narrow nose often indicates a caucasian but other features may now represent causcasians at all. In which case, you would know that there is some mixed ancestry there and adjust the skin color based on the mix. There are exceptions to the rule, but it is a fairly precise science. Forensics in similar cases like these, are circumstances where we can't ignore races. It is not being racist or prejudice. To answer someone elses comment, we should care. It matters because we can further learn about inter-racial studies of the past. As mentioned, there was a racial difference. Was this due to some sort of prejudice, or some other difference? Why were the pharoahs predominately white? What can we learn from this? Are we missing something about the whole cultural circumstances of this ancient world? What can it teach us about ourselves? The list can go on, but I think I've made my point. I don't think any question about our world in which we live is a stupid question. How would we learn if we didn't seek out answers. I liked your question.

It has to do with their ancestors travelling into ice age northern Eurasia tens of thousands of years ago and genetic mutation since, mummies thousands of years old with blonde and red hair have been found in caves in China, Japan and South America as well as Europe so I guess they did get around. But I think it is recessive so once they start intermingling with populations that have all dark hair it becomes less common. Oh, and then there is the beauty thing where women think dying their hair some othe rcolor will make them more attractive, or they get bored and just want to make a change in their looks. It really doesn't matter to men that much.

A lot of Americans color their hair that color, women especially. The majority of adults here actually have brown or black hair. Oftentimes, white Americans have blonde (gold) hair when they are young children, but it darkens when we get into our teens. (I don't know why that happens.) Personally, I like dark hair better, but gold/blonde hair is very popular for some reason. Most dolls here have that color of hair, so many girls grow up thinking that is pretty and brown or black hair is not. Also, many movie stars have that color of hair. I think it's silly.
The people who originally settled America from Europe came from England, where many people had blonde hair because of their genes. But now, with many different ethnicities in America, many people have genes for black or brown hair instead. But blonde hair is still popular, even though it has been hundreds of years!
