and i am not a femenist or anything but i am a journalist and i catch alot of heck from my teacher when i use "sexiest" writing like refering to a female waiter as a waitress, but i just noticed if a person doesn't have a pic or avitar of them for there display its automaticly a males head? In the journalism handbook that is considered sexiest. Just wondering about other peoples opions. =]

i think some people just like to go out of their way to be offended and make everyone hear about it.

When you write for a living, you need to write to the customer's expectations. Your future employer will expect you to write by a styleguide or handbook, so you might as well learn to do it now. Or you might not get a job later.

And, yes, I think the blank male head is sexist. I asked a question about that a while ago. I suspect that if Yahoo! Answers were in your class, your professor would mark it down. :)

I never knew that. Its fascinating. The more you use it, the more people get aware. There is nothing wrong with it. Its not wrong, so your teacher should get with the program. Don't be afraid to be a feminist. Its not like you are asking for too much.

If you believe that men and women deserve equal rights and responsibilities you are a feminist. Just thought you'd like to know.

As for the male image...it's not a big enough issue to get concerned about. It's not diminishing anyone's rights or treating either gender as somehow "less-than."
