Don't want to go against wot yr family has said. I've never shaved (ever), but I wax from my ankles to my bikini line and have done for the last 30 years and provided you moisturise regularly - have never had a problem. The skin above your knee is more supple as well. On the other hand if you don't need to shave above your knee - why start? Good luck!

Hmm, I have seen it myself. It depends on your skin and what you used to shave. The skin above the knee is quite sensitive to shaving.Notice the other parts of your body that you shave. Do they leave bad skin? If so, then it might be worse for your thighs. Also, using shaving sticks create more rash. If you have to do it, be careful. Use conditioners, creams and things that will help your skin after shaving like Vit. E.

Yes, I shave above my knee. Even if I'm just gonna be wearing jeans (which is most of the time), I can't stand that irritating leg hair after more than three days. It just doesn't make sense to me NOT to shave the top half. I mean, I say it's all or nothing.

The skin all over the body is the same(more or less)... 'stratified squamus' hence there shd be no problem if u have shavd below the knee and faced no reactions(allergy to the razor or cream)... then theres a good chance you will never face such problems by doing the same above the knee

i've always shaved from the bottom of my leg to the top & nothing bad has ever happened. it probably depends on what type of razor or shaving cream u're using. ppl have different skin types & some r more sensitive than others.

I've shaved my entire legs since I started shaving and my legs are fine - In fact my boyfriend tells me I have the softest skin he has ever felt. So I would say no.

its not BAD but i think the skin is more sensitive there because in my case, i get razor bumps only in that place.'

also, sometimes you wont have to shave there when you first start to shave because the hair is usually thinner and is less noticable.

i would wait till you absolutely have to shave your upper legs but if you cant wait (as i was) then it doesnt really make a difference.

that is just a way for them to get yoo not to shave there! it's not bad for your skin, but it does have to get used to it! i would suggest shaving down ward toward your feet for the first few times! after that then start shaving upward towards yourself! my mom told me the same thing when i first started shaving! she then told me like 3 years later that it was just a joke to not get me to shave! lol ^_^!
