Even though I'm shy, sometimes I will make a comment that exposes my naivete and sometimes someone will play on my gullible nature. When they see my reaction or response, people will either get a huge grin on their face or laugh. Sometimes I get embarrassed when this happens and I blush or become very bashful and get very flustered. Why do people like to tease shy, naive and gullible people? Why do they laugh or simply smile in response? Are they poking fun? Or is this kind of response harmless?

I think it is being done in fun. I am so gullible I even find myself laughing along with others at myself. Just smile back at them...they most likely think you are cute and sweetly innocent.

Well if you can openly admit gullibility and being naive then you are fully aware that other people aren't this way. People discriminate against what they don't understand. If you think about it in another way people laugh at stupidity and if the people who laugh at you obviously understand then they take it as a sign of stupidity and are making fun of you, but not in a harsh way.

Most people seem to be genuinely nice, but a 76 year old friend of mine genuinely is. She has an amazing zest and enthusiasm for life, she's simply wonderful. We met as neighbours with common interests and became friends.

if it is people you know well.... like family or friends more than likely it is harmless....think on your feet and comeback and get an even bigger laugh....as long as it remains harmless and noone gets hurt....
