It's just something they put into place for two reasons:
1) So, you can guage just how much you've hopefully helped
the Yahhoo Answer community. The idea is, as you watch
your points accumulate,
2) It will make you feel good about yourself, thereby inspiring you
to continue helping others and allowing the program to grow.
It's actually a great idea- helping others with things that you know and they don't, and feeling good about it. A decent start at improving the world, I say. No, I don't work for Yahoo! It's just a great idea.

you get a dollar for each point earned but you must collect before 12/31/07 or you lose out.

Taking alcohol
and other manias -
Similarly Yahoo!Answers is also an addiction. You do not get anything. If you have time and convenience (Computer and Internet connection) you can participate. Otherwise absolutely nothing to gain. -
