I love ya does NOT mean the same thing as "I love you."
Why can't he just say I love you?

Does "I love ya" basically mean...as friends?

:(

He might not love you and doesn't want to hurt you. It could be that he suffers from insecurities and doesn't know how to say "I love you". Ask him.

ok it's one of two. either he does love you and its really scared to say it, that he's coming out about it with baby steps. so by saying 'i love ya' he was putting himself out there but not all the way. just in case you didnt feel the same. and the other option is that he knows you care about him but he's realizing that he doesnt really feel the same way, so he's letting you know he's seeing you as a friend by saying 'i love ya'. but to me it sounds more like the first option. the best to find out? ask him about it head on.

Ya, his kind of love. It may be just words that he uses easily. Ask him what type of love? Some just say it to get you in the sack. Could be a slip, he thought he was talking to his mom.

guys are weird sometimes. they don't understand that girls want guys to say i love youu and not i love ya. well just understand that he really means i love you it just comes out wrong because he's a guy and he can't help it. :D you could always talk to him about it? or you could say i love you too instead of i love ya too and maybe he would get the hint...

Sorry, but when I said luv ya to a guy, it was because he expected me to say I love you, and I couldn't. I didn't love him.

Saying "I love you " is a big thing. If a guy would say it, he would say it properly. If he knows that he didn't get the right message across, he will say it again. Don't ask him. Act like nothing happened.

Perhaps he is nervous about it and saying the exact words "I love you" is a big step for him, like a commitment. "I love ya" is easier for him to say now, but eventually he'll say those words.
