What book should I choose for reasearch paper?

It has to be at least 150 pages long and it has to be by a british author. Its for my senior english reasearch paper

Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway- it's kinda boring but it has lots of symbolism, allegory etc.
and i bet it would impress your teacher if you actually read it.

Some British fiction writers that I enjoy reading include:
W. Somerset Maugham (The Razor's Edge), Evelyn Waugh (Brideshead Revisited), Graham Greene (The Quiet American or the non-fiction Journey Without Maps), and John Fowles (Daniel Martin, The Magus, The Collector). These are all 20th century writers.
