In junior high, I had just gotten my period and wore perfume to "cover up" any bad smell from my pad. Then I overheard someone saying, "it smells in here--like dirty diapers, cheap perfume, and hairspray." (of course I was also wearing hairspray; it was the late 80s.) He was seated 3 rows in front of me. I've never been confident about the way I smell since.

I've been paranoid about the way *other people* react to my smell. But I think it's a different issue here.

In my case, it's people on the bus--public mass transit because I can't afford a car currently. And a LOT of the Mall Brat/Teeny Bopper types just *endlessly* talk smack about how I "stink".

Never mind that anymore these days I don't leave the house unless I (at least) brush my teeth, use mouthwash (some days twice), soap, deodorant (some days twice). I know damn full and well, objectively, that I don't stink, I've had people in my building, my own neighbors say I don't, and I've also had friends tell me I sweat the hygiene thing *too much* actually....

But nope....some of these Bratty punks on the bus, they look at me, see that I am older, an overweight guy, automatically think I am "fugly" and rather than *say that* to my face, they pick at something subjective like "smell".

I get this objectively. But emotionally it does have me messed up and paranoid. I mean, it makes me angry, but what can I do? I cannot snap on the kids, *I'm* supposed to be the one who is older and who knows better after all.

So yeah....I hear what you're saying, have a similar problem, but really at least with me it is more *other people's issues* and bad attitude than it is me at this point.

Sorry I can't be of help....I wish I knew what to do or say, but my confidence is pretty trashed too. :">

Take care and stay strong....I mean of good will and heart of course. :)

I think you might be a little paranoid. As long as you are showering everyday and using deoderant you should be fine unless you have some kind of medical problem that would cause you to still smell. Maybe you should try clynical strength deoderant. And secret just came out with a body spray in different scents that coincide with the deoderants. They smell really good but are not too strong. That on top of deoderant should keep you fresh and secure.

I think a lot of people secretly worry about it. No one will ever tell you to your face that you stink. They'll just tell everyone else. Perfume is never the way to cover up a bad odor. Too many people do it and it ALWAYS stinks!

I splurge on good personal hygiene products. I mainly shop at L'Occitane and on occasion, the Body Shop. Find a good, fresh-scent soap that mixes well with perfume or body spray. The milk soap from L'Occitane smells great and doesn't stink when mixed with perfume or body sprays. Don't over do it with the fragrance, shower daily, find a good deodorant, keep your hair and clothes and sheets clean, and you'll be fine.

And I have to agree with a previous answer about tampons. With pads that nastiness is just sitting there on you for hours. For that reason, I'd say stay CLEAR away from pads.

Yes, I am always paranoid about my smell. People tell me I smell nice all the time though, and I don't wear perfume. Still, when someone mentions a stench in the room I become paranoid.

Well, as long as your clean and you make sure to shower daily. Its out of your hands. But for me, I know Im clean if I have my period or not so I dont worry. I would suggest using tampons if you worry. With pads its just filth sitting there. Theyre okay for bed of chorse but durring the days tampons are a good idea. But be confident, dont worry.

Tampons and shower, wash well...I think sometimes people are more sensitive to odors than other..maybe he was told you were on your period by another girl and decided to humiliate you...
