I would definitely get a second opinion. Your dog could be allergic to so many different things. His food for instance, do you change it often? There are special foods for dogs with sensitive skin. But that might not be it at all. Is the skin under the hair loss dry or irritated? If so we try giving him fish oil capsule it is great for the skin and coat. My St. Bernard began to lose some hair on his back last winter, after many tests we discovered that he has a dry skin condition. The dry heat being turned on in the house makes it much worse in the winter. We began giving him a 1000mg fish oil capsule twice a day, hydroxyzine 3 times a day ( doggy benadryl ), and bathing him in a hypoallergenic soap less frequently than we would normally bathe. With in 2 weeks his hair had begun to grow back, we stopped the hydroxyzine after a month, stayed with the hypo soap, and we have never had a problem since. Good Luck

WOW these answer are RIDUCLOUS. Yes there are such things as hypoallergenic dogs. The Dogs that are nonshedding are all hypoallergenic because they dont carry Dander in their fur because they have hair instead of fur. HOWEVER rare cases of allergies that people have to dogs is that they are allergic to the dogs Saliva. in that case all breeds of dogs would cause an issue with your allergies but most people with allergies are allergic to the dander. ALSO If your allergies arent that severe, they sell shampoos that help deal with shedding dogs. I work with dogs so i know i good bit about this. Poodles are actually the best hypoalergenic dogs but others include: Shih Tzu's, Lhasa Apso's, Schnauzer's, Soft Coated Wheaten's, Yorkie's, Maltese, Bichon's, Italian GreyHounds, and any poodle mixes or and mixes with most of these dogs as long as they are of AT LEAST 2nd or 3rd genoration. SORRY sadly, Boxers do shed a pretty good deal.

I have a boxer with the same problem. She is two, and for the past year or so looses fur in spots towards her back end. The vet said it could be an allergy, but the medicine she was prescribed made her pee all over. Sometimes it grows in a little but in other spots it's bare. Would love to know what this is as well.

Get allergy tests done, it's the only way to be sure. But, be prepared to spend a lot of money. My dog is allergic to grass, soy, wheat, rice, turkey and a host of other things. Not easy to find dog food or treats that don't have these things in them. Also, she gets pills at the tune of almost $200 a month plus periodic blood tests for liver function.
