sleep aids can actually cause you to do this more, as long as its healthy why change it, apple wedges, crackers, a handful of cereal, what can it hurt?

The foods you're eating are simple sugars, which are burned up quickly, causing you to have a surge of insulin, which in turn lowers your blood sugar, making you hungry again. You need to eat something with a bit of fat and protein at bedtime...peanut butter on a whole wheat cracker, piece of cheese on a whole wheat cracker, a little egg salad on a small piece of whole grain bread, a small glass of 1 or 2% milk. When you get up, take a drink of water and go back to sleep. If you continue to have the problem, talk to your doctor. You may need to be checked for diabetes or another such endocrine condition.

you really should get the january issue of ophra and read the story about the too lisas that tryed to keep there weight off after they lost it and failed
Im not saying your fat cause i know a lot of skinny people who eat non stop how ever thats not nessasaraly good for anyone to eat all times a night , anyhow , we learned that they were using food as a kind of comfort and if we fill that void with something else ( a good book, a hobby , tv , pedicure, sex,ect...)
also you should find healthy alternatives to your late night snack
lightly salted popcorn instead of chips, or some fruit instead of candy of cookies ( i also eat those rice cakes that taste like chocolate chip cookies and they reduce the calories by half) and slowly wean yourself off of the late snacks by eateing smaller portions
read that article it will make a difference

You don't say if you are fat or just hungry ;)

I do snack at night, but my BMI is 19.4 and I am an ectomorph. You could be as well.

You also don't say whether you lift weights or not. If you do and you are hungry it's because your muscles need *proteins*, so drink a nice milk shake with protein powders before going to bed and you won't feel hungry again.

As a general rule, when you snack eat low glycaemic index foods, so that they stay in your stomach for a longer time and without skyrocketing your insulin. That is better for you and for your health.

I'm a nurse. Drink water every time you get up until you're full. Water also burns fat. It will take a lot of will power but you can do it.
