You don't really have much of a choice.
You could try hunting for the link on the microsoft website, to order the SP2 CD which they ship for free to you, worldwide.
Then again, it takes 2-3 weeks for the CD to reach you, so even if you are on dial-up, you would've completed the download already.

Just download it from a Microsoft Website. It takes a half hour to an hour at the most. Its not that much time. Just download it while your at work, by the time you get home, it will already be downloaded already.

Do you use dialup? It is naturally slow - not much you can do.
If you have cable, free up memory:
- set wallpaper and screensaver to blank (they run in the background and use part of your memory)
- close all open programs to make the download
