I got a puppy last christmas and a few weeks after god another puppy. They bonded and were really good friends, a few months ago my first dog got very sick and had to be put down. For a while after my other dog would not eat, would pee in the house even though she was totally house traine, and was no longer her energetic self. Lately she has been more like herself but still has her moments where she seems depressed.
Should I get another dog to keep her company or is she going to be fine on her own? Because right now I dont want to get another dog if it is not going to help my dog.

Aw thats sad, your doggie is prolly just goin thru the mourning process, I'd take her to the park and get her plenty of exercise and attention. I did notice that my dog perked up a whole lot when I brought a puppy home but then maybe get a kitty they're a lil easier to take care of and my puppy bonded with out kittys too.

Getting a second dog can sometimes be stressful for the dog who is already established in the house... I know because I am going through that right now. I suggest giving it a little more time, and give the dog lots of attention.

Your dog may well be depressed - probably misses her companion. We need time to grieve and move on after the loss of a friend. Give your dog a bit more time before expecting her to bounce back. Then think about getting another dog.

Don't know what the first dog died from but ..is there a chance that your second puppy is infected with the same disease as the first ? Hope not..See a vet though......

Your second dog may be missing his friend..Try playing around with him more .Pet him and add a doggie treat once in a while....He needs exercise too....Take Fido for a hice walk it;s good for him and you too.!

It should take about five weeks after the death for your dog to get over it.

So yeah dogs do get depressed after a loss but not like people do. Getting another dog isn't necessary.

Then don't get one. Your dog is already getting better, and she will continue. Make sure you give her enough attention and affection.
I gather that your dog is just growing into adulthood, too. She may simply not be as active and playful as when she was a puppy, but still fine.

Thats a really bad sign, I would take her to the vet immediately and get blood tests done. When my dog seemed "depressed" it turned out he had a serious illness.
