21"When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. 22But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up the spoils. Luke 11:21-22
36He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. Luke 22:36
And Christ using a weapon in defense of the Temple in John 2:15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
You can't say Christ didn't tell His people to arm up to protect themselves
'Thou shalt not kill' is more accurately translated as thou shalt not murder. God at times to the Israelites to kill certain people.

A few problems with your position:
1) "Thou shalt not kill" is an OT law. Jesus abolished following OT traditions when he incarnated and began his teachings.
2) Jesus' philosophy was "You have heard the commandment, 'You shall love your countryment but hate your enemy.' My command to you is: love your enemies, pray for your persecutors. This will prove that you are sons of your heavenly Father, for his sun rises on the bad and the good, he rains on the just and the unjust." Matthew 5: 43-45. This is meant to abstain from any sort of violence whatsoever.
3) However, it might be said that this commandment is, what you might consider, part of the 'advanced' course. Those who adhere the strongest to his commandments will be the ones he holds in the highest regard. One can be a follower, wield weapons of violence (Peter being the best example) and still be loved, but one will not be considered an exemplar. One might consider this as why Jesus placed Peter at the head of his church; despite his failings, he eventually returned to Jesus.

My Dad was raised Christian and he never owned a gun... he joined the army to use them though... My mom is more active in church and she is very angery that he has fought in war, but there is something called forgivness. He does not own a gun because there is four kids, including me in the house. Including a seven year old brother.

Sure! It's an American right! A gun is just enforcement and a tool for personal safety. The last thing would be to use it to kill. The scare factor is the hopefull outcome.

When someone is knocking your door down to rape your wife and kill you, that's not the time to think about buying a gun.
Self-defense is common sense for everyone including Christians.

It's actually "Thou shalt not murder." Because of this, it is justifiable for a policeman or a soldier to kill someone.

i am a Christian and i own guns, swords, knives, spears, blow-guns, and i love them. Christ himself commands that we should have something to protect our families with. the commandment says "thou shall not murder", which is to kill with evil intent. killing to stop an evil person from harming you or your family is not murder. it's self defense.
