Yes to the shooting for certain. The shooting would bring about several different charges. The most relevant being desecration of a corpse. Every US jurisidiction has a law against desecration of human remains. Shooting the dearly departed at the funeral would surely count. Additionally, you would be charged in many jurisdictions with disrupting a funeral - a majority of US jurisdictions have laws against disrupting a funeral. Also - you would probably be charge with wanton endangerment and illegal discharge of a weapon as I imagine others would be at the funeral.
As for slapping the sh** out ofa corpse . . . well - you might wind up in a paddy wagon for your role in the fight which would likely follow. I imagine you might be charged with disrupting a funeral if you are in one of the States with such a law.
All in all, slapping the sh** out fo a corpse is the better choice and because it is a more hands-on afront to the departed would likely be the more satisfying of the two should you be so inclined.
Fun question!

I don't know about illegal, though I am sure many people would frown on the situation.
Also, I think this shows you need help of some sort.
And I would reccommend that you simply don't attend the funeral, and say good riddance to the person.

The one who invented the wheel. I would say after that probably Plato, or maybe Socrates. Being a philosopher that far back in time would give them a deep insight into the social issues of the times and the culture as well. Not to mention they would be totally able to discribe the good food and 'coffee' houses of the day ( or wine houses or whatever was the local counterculture of the time) I'd like to know how things really changed.

Although the dead person would suffer no ills because they are not conscious of anything at all(Ecclesiastes9:5) I do not have any idea of the legality of it butwhy on earth would you want to do such a thing or even think about it?

Your best bet is to NOT attend the funeral.
Please get counseling.
They dead are dead and sleep among the dead.

Disorderly conduct in same states. And very few states can get you on "Violent Physical Touching and/ or Mutilation of a corpse".
