Nizoral Shampoo twice a week and some other dandruff shampoo between those washings and you won't have a flake to speak of. Nizoral used to be by prescription but is now available over the counter. Trust me it works. I used to get it from my doctor now I get it from Wal Mart. Happy New Year.

I went to the doctor about 3 weeks ago and paid to get this answer:
Dandruff's medical term is Seborrhea.
There is no cure but it can be controlled.
Use medicated shampoos like:
Exsel
Loprox
Selsun Blue
Zincon
Capex
Selsun
ZNP Bar
Head & Shoulders
Suave Dandruff Shampoo
Nizoral (over the counter @ 1%, prescription @ 2%)
When using the shampoo, first wet your hair. Rub some shampoo into your scalp and hair. leave on your scalp and hair for 5 minutes. Then rinse it out. Use the dandruff shampoo every day until your dandruff goes away. Then use it 2 or 3 times per week to keep dandruff away.
Having dandruff does not mean that your scalp is too dry! It means you need to wash your hair more often.
Look for shampoos with ketocomazole, zinc, or selenium. These control the yeast the best. A person may need to try several shampoos to find the one that works best for you - then rotate between several medicated and non-medicated shampoos to maintain effectiveness.
Dermasmoothe F/S Oil is especially good for African-Americans as it does not dry the hair and can be applied daily or left on overnight as a scalp treatment.
Seborrhea is not curable. It may go away and come back later.

What is dandruff?
Dandruff is a shedding of the skin on the scalp that leads to white flakes on the head, neck, and shoulders.
What causes dandruff?
Dandruff may be caused by a form of a skin condition called eczema, which causes increased shedding of normal scalp skin cells. Hormonal or seasonal changes may make dandruff worse.
What are the symptoms?
Common symptoms of dandruff include white, oily-looking flakes of dead skin in your hair and on your shoulders and an itchy, scaling scalp. Your scalp can be either excessively dry or oily.
How is it treated?
Home treatment often helps prevent and get rid of the symptoms of dandruff.
Use an antidandruff shampoo. A variety of shampoos are available, containing different ingredients. Trying several will help you find out which antidandruff shampoo is most effective for you.
Shampoo daily to prevent a build up of dead skin cells on your scalp.
If an antidandruff shampoo helps stop dandruff for a while but the dandruff problem returns, try a different antidandruff shampoo.
Alternate antidandruff shampoos with regular ones if you are worried about the effects of antidandruff shampoos' harsh chemicals on your hair.
Rub your scalp. When you wash your hair, lather once, rinse, then lather a second time and rub your scalp vigorously as you shampoo. This will help dislodge excess cells. Be careful not to rub so energetically that you damage your scalp.
Let it soak. After you lather the second time, let the medicated shampoo sit on your head for 5 minutes. This will give the antidandruff shampoo time to work.
Rinse well. This will help get rid of all the cells you have loosened up during shampooing.

Haha ew, ya know what I have the same issue :\ you can't get "rid" of it, but you can treat it. Selson blue works well, and Scalpicin works really well - Scalpicin is a bottle of stuff you can use whenever your scalp itches you just squirt it on the spot and it helps stop the itch. Selson blue is a shampoo. You should go to the Dermatologist, they'll give you some killer stuff!
T Gel is also good. Just remember the first time when ever you treat your dandruff when the shampoo is in there it burns the **** out of your scalp but it doesn't irritate it, when you get rinse it out it's better and it doesn't burn anymore - it just means it's working.
I notice mine though is only during the winter :X

Dandruff shampoo is the only way, followed by a dandruff conditioner. Walmart has their own brand, which I buy in 'refresh' which has mint and I see a difference if I DON"T use it and use a regular shampoo, the dandruff is there. When I use that walmart one it reduces it A LOT

most people that think they have dandruff dont. you may just have a dry scalp. Before buying a dandruff shampoo, try using a moisturizing conditioner and massage it into your scalp. especially this time of year, people just have a dry scalp. be aware of dandruff shampoos. they may strip your hair color

Head and Shoulders shampoo or another Pine tar based shampoo. If it doesn't cure it you need a Doctor it could be psoriasis or some other scalp skin disease.
