You are in Second place if the person you passed was in second. If you are the one who was in second place when you passed then you are in first.

U could be in last place because u feel asleep at the start of the race and everybody lapped u so then that would put u in last place because u never really caught up to anyone.

2nd... because if you passing someone who's in second place, than someone has to be ahead of them in first!!
