It's quite large, but I've had it for more than two years. Lately, I notice certain attributes which I don't think were there before: the appearance of two small darker portions on one side, the appearance and disappearance of tiny dark dots that come and go in and around the mole. I've talked to general doctors unofficially about it, and one of them even checked it up close with a flash light; they all told me I have nothing to worry about. Even though, I'm not convinced. Yet I really would like to know if it's the best choice to get a biopsy made, since it's a pretty big mole.

I'm a nurse. You are right and your care is important. Have another doctor to look at it and request a biopsy. Your are on the right track after all it's your life involved and you deserve some answers.

I had moles since I was small and was told it was nothing to worry about. But the doctor gave me signs to look for and when I started seeing them I got them removed. I went ahead and had all the irregular moles removed for peace of mind. Sounds like you might want to do that if you're really bothered by it. Mine were done in 10 minutes in my family doctors office. 1 at a specialist because it was on the face and they can minimize scaring.

living with someone who has to go to the dermatologist every quarter, i learned that it is always better to be safe than sorry. this is especially true with irregular shaped moles and with appearance changes. i would strongly advise a trip to your dermatologist, who will know for certain when it should be biopsied. good luck.

You should have it checked by a dermatologist. They will be a little more thorough and are better acquainted with skin conditions that a general doctor.
