The Lord described us as His bride. On a first date it might be a little much to point out character flaws. I believe that once a person is secure in the love of Christ that they will want to change and seek His council. They will ask Him to make themselves aware of character flaws and then for God to remove them. I mean it says that people know when they are sinning and maybe you were different but for me before I found the Lord I found the finger pointers to be proof of either there was no God or there was one that I cared little to know as I was nicer than He must be if He acts like His followers. Do you see what I am saying. But whatever works. I mean if you are leading people to the Lord and they are then filled with the Spirit or Love as God equals love then maybe I'm wrong but if mostly what you encounter is anger and hostility it may be that your condemnation and your perceived superiority are only serving to drive the very people from our Lord who need Him. I mean how this approach working for you? as Dr. Phil likes to say.

1. Because they feel guilty and convicted before God.
2. Because it is a natural (and sinful) human reaction to point
the finger away from ourselves when our sin is exposed.
3. Because they lack the knowledge and understanding of how
to take correction.
4. Because they aren't really saved to begin with.

OR maybe....

5. Because your words are not edifying, they are damning. Try
saying it in a different way.

I agree with Funnana...we need to quit coddling people and speak with love but speak the truth as the Word states and not apologise for it....we have to quit turning our heads and ignoring what Jesus never would of..

I dont blame that behavior on the fact that they are Christian. Overly judgemental people are found in all walks of life.

Christians like to make other people feel bad. I have yet to figure out why but they do love to turn the screw.

Perhaps they don't mean hateful, but judgemental.

Perhaps Christians should concern themselves with their personal relationship with deity, and leave others to do the same.

It's more of the way it is said if your just go up to someone and say "HEY YOUR SINNING YOUR GONNA BURN IN HELL YOU QUEER!!!" that's not too appropriate.

There are a couple of points of view on this subject. This topic has to do with mercy.

Christians do not always like to directly point to the sin or sinful state of another, but rather to lead others by charitable example. Sometimes this is correct, and at other times it falls short of necessity. A person's condition may not be by choice but by chance, as in being victimized. So mercy is required in knowing how to deal with this issue. We do not know the heart nor the soul of the other, what they are knowledgeable about and what they are blinded to. To open their eyes as Jesus did, we must not only lead them to healing but to forgiveness and to holy conviction.

*The spiritual works of mercy are:

To instruct the ignorant;
To counsel the doubtful;
To admonish sinners;
To bear wrongs patiently;
To forgive offences willingly;
To comfort the afflicted;
To pray for the living and the dead.

*That the natural law enjoins works of mercy is based upon the principle that we are to do to others as we would have them do to us.
Mercy as it is here contemplated is said to be a virtue influencing one's will to have compassion for, and, if possible, to alleviate another's misfortune. It is the teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas that although mercy is as it were the spontaneous product of charity, yet it is to be reckoned a special virtue adequately distinguishable from this latter. In fact the Scholastics in cataloguing it consider it to be referable to the quality of justice mainly because, like justice, it controls relations between distinct persons

[Comments]
True mercy and love is to want what is best for the other. And in wanting the other to be reconciled to God, we would try to do all of these things in order to see them be reconciled. In order that we ask Jesus for healing of another, we must offer prayer and sacrifice, making up in our own duty, reparation to God which the other is lacking. Penance is a teaching of the Church.

We may harden the hearts of sinners by pointing to their sin and disgracing and disillusioning them about love and mercy. Yet it is still necessary to remind people that sin is sin as it was written, and has not changed since the beginning.

To those who totally reject God's graces and
admonishment, let's see what St. Peter says:

St. Peter wrote in his first letter: (Chapter 4)

Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same attitude (for whoever suffers in the flesh has broken with sin),

2 so as not to spend what remains of one's life in the flesh on human desires, but on the will of God.

3 For the time that has passed is sufficient for doing what the Gentiles like to do: living in debauchery, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and wanton idolatry.

4They are surprised that you do not plunge into the same swamp of profligacy, and they vilify you;

5 but they will give an account to him who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.

As one favorite hymn in Church proclaims: They will know we are Christians by our Love.
