I just got a new cat last week from my mom's boss. We named her Hermione and she has been a sweet, normal cat. Now my mom's boss wanted us to get the other one. We got the other one today and named her Winnie.
Everytime we get Winnie even slightly close to Hermione, Hermione hisses and scratches at her. I just wanted to know why Hermione doesn't like Winnie, and how I get her to. Please answer. Thanks.

Cats are just like this at first. When we brought home our new kitty, the big kitty hated her. She even hissed at a towel that the little kitty slept on! We secluded the kitten in a room with food, water and a litter box for a weekend and then introduced them. The big kitty stalked the little one, watching her every move for about a week. Then she just gave up, and now they're friends. Big kitty will always be dominant and fights happen from time to time, but they love each other now. The big kitty is grooming the little one as I speak!

They'll warm up to each other eventually. Cats are creatures of habit and some adjust better to change than others. If it becomes a real problem, talk to your vet. Good luck!

Cute cat names! :)
Cats are pretty territorial, especially if they're indoor cats. I've never seen two stranger cats who liked each other at first. Your two cats will have to work out between themselves which one is "top cat." Hermione is probably scared right now because she doesn't know how things will play out. Usually, the original cat becomes the "alpha" cat, but not always. Either way, be sure to give Hermione some extra affection and TLC until the cats get used to each other so that she still feels secure as part of the household. Don't make them share space at first--you may need to give them separate feeding areas at first, for example, and above all, do NOT pressure them! This ocurred with my two cats as well, and now they're best buds. While your two cats may not turn out to be one another's best friends (especially if they're both full grown--it's easier with kittens and young cats), they'll get used to each other, establish their own kitty ground rules, and get along fine after a while. It may take a week or two, so be patient! Hermione might appreciate the extra company, anyway. Many cats get lonely when they're the only cat in the house.

Hope this helps, and have fun with the cats!!

Hermione is jealous she feels that shes being replaced and as far as getting her to like Winnie it will never happen.

all animals can be very protective of thier territory and since Hermione was there first she is just trying to protect this territory. try introducing them to one another very slowly or pet winnie and get her smell all over you and then petting hermione and vise versa so the transition will be easier since if hermoni smells herself on winnie it wont be such a big deal.

Good Luck hope it works out.!

The same problem occured when I brought home a new cat. It just takes time. It also helps if you give the new cat a bath for it may be carrying scents from other cats from the litter. Bathing it gives it a chance to smell like home and what the other cat is used to.

Cats, whether they are house cats or in the wild they are very territorial, unless the cats grew up together they want their space. It should take your new cat a while to respect and understand this. All cats are like this and all you can do is hope they stay out of each others way. Give them time to adapt to each other, after that they should love each other.

BECAUSE HERMIONE WAS THERE FIRST AND SHE/HE KNOWS HER DOMAIN AND SHE ISN'T GOING TO LET ANY OTHER CAT TAKE IT OVER SHES JUST LETTING WINNIE KNOW HER PLACE BUT AS TIME GOES BY SHE'LL START PLAYING WITH HER AND LOVE EACH OTHER IT JUST TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE.

I had a cat and then my boyfriend's younger cat moved in. My cat hissed at the new one and was not very welcoming. I was freaking out! Then they started to fight it out and determine their hierarchy. Now they absolutely love each other. They clean each other and nap together. They still fight, but it's play fighting and they don't use their claws. So just give them time to work out their stuff and they'll get used to each other. Good luck! =)

If these two cats have lived together before, then they already know they don't like each other. All cats don't get along. Sometimes you just have to be happy if they will tolerate each other.
