I have done a lot of research on this topic for myself. What do you consider cheap? Two of Consumer Reports best buys are not too expensive. One of them is the Panasonic SC-HT740. This one you can pick up for around $300-$350. The other one is the Samsung HTQ45. This one sells for about $270-$300. If you are looking to spend more than these amounts and I can give you more options.

if you want cheap home theatre, get a htib (home theatre in a box), they sell it at any electronics retailer
