Avalon is on Catalina Island. No, you cannot take a taxi.

Here's a website on Catalina.

By the way, you didn't say which airport. If that's your only destination, you should fly into John Wayne (code SNA) which is in Newport Beach. The Catalina Flyer (a boat) will take you from Newport in the morning and take you back in the evening. I think you can also go out one morning and come back a different evening if you want to stay in Catalina. Looks like round trip cost $57 per person.

Avalon is fun, but super small. For the best Catalina activity, I recommend the kayaking. You can get tour guides to take you on a kayak tour of the island. It's awesome! The best is to do an overnight kayak/camping trip. It's actually pretty cheap considering you won't have to pay a hotel bill. And you can even find some where the tour guides cook you a gourmet meal! Just make sure you come in summer when it's warm!

Take a shuttle bus--like Super Shuttle or Prime Time-- from LAX to Long Beach or San Pedro, where boats to Avalon (Catalina Island) leave pretty frequently. The shuttle should cost about $30. It's about a 15-20 mile drive from LAX to the docks.
The boat trip to Catalina is about $30 each way. If you stay the night, there are some bed and breakfast places on Avalon that area decent.

Check out the Catalina Express web site for details about the boat trip to Avalon.

As others have stated, Avalon is on Catalina Island. Depending on which airport you will arrive at, you can find ferry service to the island departing from Newport Harbor in Orange County, and also from the Ports of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles. In all three cases the trip is roughly 90 minutes. The City of Avalon is VERY small so wear comfortable shoes, you can walk to most of the places you wish to see. There are bicycle and electric cart rentals if you don't want to walk. Enjoy your visit.

As I recall, Avalon is on the island of Catalina...26 miles from the coast. You'll need a ferry for the taxi...or take a taxi to the ferry then say,"Adios."

You need to take a ferry from Long Beach, San Pedro, or Dana Point. A taxi would be an expensive way to do it. Here is a link to the Catalina Express: http://www.catalinaexpress.com/

You take a ferry from Newport Beach to Catalina. You can't take your car because the only form of transportation is golf carts and bicycles and of course walking. It's a nice relaxing place with lots of wilderness to explore. You'll have fun.

Well the last time I checked you can't drive cars across an ocean, but you can take a ferry. It's about $20-40 bucks a person roundtrip for the ferry.

Kanyakumari is the southernmost point of peninsular India and the meeting point of three oceans-the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. Besides its importance as a Hindu pilgrim center, it is famous for its beautiful views of sunrise and sunset over the waters.
