A compressed folder I think is self explanatory. Zipping is a method of packaging many files/folders into one file/folder.

Use WInzip or Winrar to unzip it:

A zipped folder is like cramming everything into a software suitcase. The program shrinks the size of most documents, and some pictures. If you're running out of hard drive space it is a good way of freeing up some room without deleting stuff. It is handy if you want to email several photos, instead of attaching each one separately, you just attach the zip file of the pics. The person that gets you email only has the open the zip file to see all the pictures, and not each individual picture. Also it's a great way of say storing lots of old school documents you wrote that you agonize about getting rid of.

a zip file is a single file, usually compressed that contains 1 or more files inside it

it allows easier transfers to and from various mediums and can save filespace

a zipped folder is basically the same file in WinXP but you open it as you would any other folder

Compression is a tool that computers use to shrink the amount of space that a file takes up on your hard drive or other data storage device. By giving a long, repeated string of code in the file a one-character code and then using just the one character whenever that string is repeated, the compression utility is able to shrink many large files into very small ones.

For example, the string "m3tyum3tyum3tyu" could be compressed into "aaa", thereby reducing the string of code to 1/5 of its original size.
