You can claim her but check with a tax guy because you might not get a financial benefit out of it. If you file and claim her, she will get little or no return because she is claimed as a dependent so you have to basically figure out the taxes both ways before you file them to see what will benefit you both the most.
Good Luck

Lots of very good answers from the usual crowd of tax pros. No one has mentioned that your relationship must not violate local law. For example, here in NC it is still against the law for anyone to "play house" whilst being unmarried or married to someone else(as an aside, that did not stop the local Sheriff from doing it and he got re-elected in a landslide). So if you live in NC you cannot take her as a dependent.
Oops, sorry, Wayne did, just noticed.

If she lived with you all year, AND her gross income for the year was less than $3300, AND you provided more than half of her support for the year, then you can very likely claim her as a dependent. She would not qualify you though for head of household status, although if your child was born in 2006, the child could. If she does not meet even one of these tests, then no you can't.
If you do claim her, you do not add her income onto your return.

Yes, she's your dependant. You could claim her even if she disagreed. If you could prove you cared for her more than half the year. But if she's willing to say that you cared for her you will need no proof at all.
Yes her gross will be added to yours but you will be the head of household in the filing status. If you made less than 30,000 last year....you and your little family will most likely be seeing a lot of money coming back to you.
About the fact that she became pregnant ON your birthday, any OB will tell you that you cannot pin point any date of conception. It's impossible. Thankfully the IRS could give a crap about when your girlfriend conceived your child.

You can claim her on your taxes as a dependent if:
1. She lived with you for 12 months in 2006
2. Her income is less than $3,300
3. She satisfies citizenship requirements
5. You provided over half her support
6. She is not married filing a joint return with her spouse.
Since she is not your spouse, you would not combine your incomes on one return.

How much money did she make when she was working? She made have made too much for you to claim her.
Also, you must be in a state where your relationship does not "violate local law". Believe it our not, in some states it is technically illegal for a man and woman to live together and not be married.

If she lived in your household for the ENTIRE year, AND you provided at least 50% of her support, you can claim her as a dependent as a member of your household.
