in 2006 I worked in Kansas for 7 days only. then I moved to Missouri. should I file Kansas income state return ? can I just file my entire 2006 state income tax to Missouri ?

You should file both. You will get everything you paid in to Kansas back, even though is is probably a few dollars. It will keep it legal to file both. If you lived in Kansas for more than 3 months file a partial resident return, but if you lived less than 3 months in Kansas file a nonresident return. You should file a resident return in Missouri. You may also have to claim the amount you earned in Kansas on your Missouri return. There is usually a place to designate "taxes paid to a state other than Missouri".

While the amount may not be much, the Kansas IRS will get a report that you earned money in the state. So, you're better off filing both states.

You can file a partial year resident return for both states. That way, you only pay each state tax on the $$$ you earned in that state.

you would be taxed on your paycheck to Kansas. once you document your taxes,you will get a entire refund from Kansas,yet owe to Missouri the place you probably did no longer pay interior the process the 12 months. it balances out.
