You accidently saved a document as NORMAL.DOT the main template file.

First, find out where that file is, and delete it. Then open Word again to start over.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

I think it is in your setup, not an inherent part of Word. I am always running Word and do not have any file that starts by itself and appears on the screen.

I thought you should check the setup. But I just looked over the setup options and I think the guy Danuitti (second answerer) is on to the right track by saying it might be a screwed-up copy of the NORMAL.DOT template.
