You know what? I have asked myself the exact same question. When ever I and in ear shot of someone sneezing I always say bless you, not god bless you, so I don't offend anyone. But I would have to say that I have only heard it a couple of times by someone else when I sneeze. I feel like people don't care anymore. Very sad if you ask me.

For me, It depends on who these people are, and what is their culture. To some people, it's part of their culture to say "God bless you" when you sneeze. To some people, it's not part of their culture; so they just look at you as you sneeze. They don't mean to be rude, rather, they don't know that they're supposed to say "God bless you" when you sneeze.

Because some people consider that 'Gby' is not part of social etiquette but merely a supertitious belief passed on from generations. Still in some cases, people expect you to utter "Excuse me" as a way of apologizing for sneezing in public. It's a matter of how one is brought up to believe certain things in life.

Some people are simply shy, and may not feel it is important to say 'bless you' each time someone sneezes. We should not mistake shyness for rudeness.

"God bless you" became the response to a sneeze during the 1665 outbreak of the plague in England. It spread to the United States with the English settlers. Many other cultures wish the sneezer "health" instead, as in "Gesundheit, " in German and "Salud" in Spanish,

It was believed that every time you sneezed, Satan could enter your spirit. So people say "Bless You" to keep him out.

I don't believe in God and it's not like anything will happen to them if I don't say it. Personally, I don't need anyone to acknowledged that I just sneezed and blew snot everywhere at 25mph.

Too embarrassed maybe. And even if they did the first time...what if you keep sneezing...are you suppose to say it "every" time? I don't all the time.
