It's not a hard test- but a little time consuming. They actually "prick" your skin with tiny, and I mean tiny, little needles that have a tiny amount of an allergen on them-- they do NOT inject it, they just break the skin slightly-- it is done in rows on your arms and are usually done on separate days to be tested for many allergens. You return to the physicians office in a determined amount of days and they then monitor the "bumps" to see which ones you may be allergic to. Also, you wait in the office for at least 1 hour after receiving your initial dosages to make sure you are not severely allergic to any of the sites.

Sounds worse than it is--- but it is worth it not to suffer from allergies anymore..........good luck to you...........it's a piece of cake..........

You could opt for the skin prick test. They basically place take a needle and prick your skin with an allergen to see if your skin reacts to it. If your skin reacts to it then you are considered allergic to the allergen.

Another way is called a RAST, (It is a blood test) They draw blood samples, send it to a lab and if you react the test will show what you are and what you are not allergic to.

I do hear however that the skin tests are more accurate.

Good luck.

as part of a study ive had almost a hundred of these tests, they dont hurt, they might be just a bit uncomfortable.

they have different liquids to test you against to see if u have an allergy to that substance (i.e. one for pollen, another for cat hair, dont ask me how they make them) they draw a on ur arm so that they can identify where they have put each liquid then put a drop of all the liquids ur being tested against on ur skin.

they then give u a little prick (u dont bleed and it doesnt hurt) through every drop of liquid to let some of the liquid into the skin. Then u wait for a couple of minutes and if u develop a rash on ur skin around one of the test sites, ur allergic to that substance.

theres nothin to be scared of,

My son had one on Friday. The dr took a bunch of different allergens that were on this plastic bar looking thing (sorry, don't know the technical name of it) and he poked my son's inner arms with them. There were apparently little needles in the prongs on the bar. They poke the skin and expose you to the allergen. They didn't hurt, and believe me, my kid hates needles. You wait ten minutes and then see if you react to any of the allergens. He was tested for some 80 different things in 10 mins. If you have a reaction, it turns red and may itch.

Mine was done on my back. I ended up being very allergic to a few different things and it was pretty uncomfortable. It didn't hurt, it just itched horribly! The good thing is once it's done they put an antihistimine cream on it right away to stop the itching.

It's honestly good to know what you're allergic to. The whole experience sounds worse than it actually is and I would do it again to have the information that I do.

Good luck!!!

One last thing: Bring some music to listen to to keep your mind off of things.

they take needles and inject you with the different types of plants, trees, molds, pets, foods. They mark it and wait so long and come back if you have a little not at the site they put it up to a scale to see how bad you are allergic to. My son had 75 shots and allergic to all. So Good Luck

They prick you back with small needles filled with chemicals from the allergen. It is not painful. They test you for about an hour. The allergens are on a cart.

They draw a big numbered grid on your back and scratch you with different substances and wait to see if you react to them.
