How to Dye Your Hair Using Kool Aid
Dye your hair with koolaid! It's cheap, affordable, and totally fun to do with a friend.

Steps
Mix two packs of unsweetened Kool-Aid with lots of conditioner, in order to make a pasty mix.
Dampen your hair.
Apply mixture to your head.
If you're doing tips or highlights, use a highlighting wand and wrap the dyed sections in tinfoil.
Leave it in for 12 hours if you have dark hair, or 6 hours if you have blonde hair.
Rinse out when you are done, and voila!

Tips
To avoid getting the dye on your pillow, wrap your head in plastic wrap, then cover your head with an old ragged towel.
If you don't like the results, the quickest way to get it out is with toothpaste or super hot water.
Be patient! Some people think that this could damage your hair, but you are letting conditioner sit in your hair for 8 hours (average). Also make sure you use 2 packs of Kool-Aid, or it will not work.

Warnings
Make sure you use unsweetened Kool-Aid. Anything else and your hair will be a mess.
This can damage your hair.

Things You'll Need
Gloves
Small mixing bowl
Conditioner
2 packets of unsweetened Kool-Aid
Highlighting wand (for highlights, but if you don't have one try a pipe cleaner)
Tin foil/plastic wrap
Vaseline, to put on the edges of your face so it doesn't get dyed too.

How to Dye Your Hair With Kool Aid
Want to dye your hair funky colours for a while, but you don't (or can't) use commercial dyes? Then use Kool-Aid! It's easy, fun, and looks great if done properly. There are many ways to do it, but this is the method I find most effective.

Steps
Read the Warnings and Things You'll Need before you start!
Determine if you need to bleach your hair.
There are two situations where you might need to bleach:
If your hair is dark, you'll need to bleach if you want anything more noticeable than a tint. (Black and dark brown hair might yield absolutely no tint at all if you don't lighten your hair.)
If you don't want the colour of the Kool-Aid to mix with your current hair-colour, you'll need to bleach too. For example, attempting to dye red hair with green Kool-Aid will result in nasty-looking brown hair. Ugh.
If your hair is blonde or very light brown, you can do without the bleach.
Find a good location. It's going to get messy, so do it inside your bathtub, or in the backyard if the weather's nice.
Put Vaseline on your forehead, ears, neck, and anywhere else that the Kool-Aid might touch. You'll also want to wear gloves. Kool-Aid stains can take days to wash off skin!
Take a packet (or two) of Kool-aid, and dump the powder into some sort of container that you can stick your hair into. If you are doing your whole head, a large basin will do.
Mix in 4-6 cups of water per package of Kool-Aid.
The temperature of the water will help determine how long the Kool-Aid will stay in. If you use boiling hot water (be careful!), the colour could last well over a month. Use warm or hot water, cold won't work very well.
Dip your hair into the Kool-Aid, and comb the liquid through your hair with your fingers. Do this for about 10 minutes, to make sure your hair is saturated.
When your hair is soaked through, squeeze out the excess Kool-Aid (just enough so that you can wrap your hair without too much dripping down your neck). Wrap your hair in plastic wrap or foil, and then a towel.
Leave it in your hair for at least half a day. You can sleep with the Kool-Aid in your hair overnight, or if you started in the morning, you can wash it out at the end of the day. The longer you leave the Kool-Aid in your hair, the longer the colour will last.
Rinse out the Kool-Aid from your hair with lukewarm water.
Apply conditioner to your hair and rinse. This will help seal in the colour.
You're done! Enjoy your funky, Kool-Aid coloured hair!

Tips
Another popular method of doing this is to mix the Kool-Aid with conditioner, and a few drops of water. However, this method tends to produce less intense and shorter-lasting colour (or it might not work at all.)
Reddish colours (red, orange, purple) tend to "stick" better and last longer than colours such as blue and green.
A few things that you can do to make your colour brighter or last longer:
-Wash your hair with baking soda before you dye.
-Mix a little bit of vinegar into the Kool-Aid

Warnings
Kool-Aid hair colour isn't necessarily temporary. It can last anywhere from a few days, to over 4 months!
After dyeing, your hair might lightly stain items such as pillows or hats (especially if you sweat alot).
If you're using hot water, be careful not to burn yourself.

First choose the right color of Kool-Aid, then just apply directly to wet hair, massaging in. Be careful not to rub into your scalp, it will be the same color as your hair. Also, if your hair has red or red tints naturally then I wouldn't reccommend using red Kool-Aid. My ex-husband did and the color stayed permanently in some areas. Otherwise, just make sure you distribute the powder evenly and let it sit for about 20 minutes. You can wrap your hair in a towel so as not to damage clothing. Then rinse and dry. You should be set to go after that.

Uh... Kool Aid won't last that long anyway. It's a natural food dye so if you use it it'll only take a few washes before it comes completely out.

is your hair a light color? if it is, then that's the only time you'll see an obvious effect of kool-aide dying. make a batch of strong cool aide (in the color/flavor of your choice) take a section of your hair and pour/brush the kool-aide to that section of hair and wrap in aluminum foil, so your hair is balled into the mixture . takes around 10-15 minutes, depending on your hair color. hope that helps

You get about 10 packets of the color you want, mix with lemon juice until only a bit runnier than paste, and a tsp. of hair conditioner (so it spreads well) and apply on damp/ very rung-out hair. Use gloves and hair color brush. Put on hair cap then use a hair drier to warm up the hair. Leave on for as long as you like the longer the better . But If you really want a bright color to stay in more than two weeks you should go to Hot Topic. They have great colors that really color your hair, for about 1 month good bright color with out the peroxide; that would make it impossible to completely remove/ or wash out. *if you've ever bleached or permanently died your hair it's more vulnerable to the color never coming out especially if you have light hair. With dark hair you might have/ want to bleach the sections that you want the color to hold. Hope that helps!

If you want to color your hair right, use hair dye, not kool aid.

Your best bet is DONT!! Kool-aid is for drinking not dying your hair. That stuff is strong enough to polish brass you don't want to put that stuff in your hair.

Don't do it!!! So bad for your hair. Go to a store like Sally's Beauty Supply and get a temp hair color. Not too pricey and lots of selection.
