If by definition you mean resolution, then no lens will help you. If graininess is your problem, illumination may be the key, and you can effectively improve this by a getting a lens with a wider aperture (assuming a constant shutter speed and sensitivity). This will throw your foreground or background out of focus more easily (i.e. less of a field of view), but if you're willing to spend more time doing find focusing, you'll get a more professional result.

This is, of course, assuming your camcorder has interchangeable lenses. I haven't seen many in the consumer market that do.

Well, first off, there arent many cameras that allow interchangeable lenses, and none of them are in the consumer range ($200-$900). Hi-def video is a measure of resolution, which means there are more pixels (1920x1080 for instance) than regular tv (720x480, as one example).

However there are add on lenses for cameras such as wide angle and telephoto (the names say all), but none of them will actually increase your resolution. But that doesnt mean they cant increase your video's picture definition. A wide angle lens will increase your camera's angle of view (basically youll see more things in the frame without having to move farther away). A telephoto will increase the definition of your cameras zoom (essentially the opposite of a wide angle), and you will see more detail at a farther range. Depending on what kind of camera you have, you might or might not be able to add a lens onto it. If you are able to, they cost around $150 and up, although there are cheaper ones, and you can find cheaper ones on ebay as well. Hope this helps!
