I know that everyone has a specific number of needed calories...mine is 1500-1800. Usually, though, I don't consume even 1000. I'm fifteen and weigh 82.6 pounds at 5'0". My question is: does it matter how far beneath your limit your consumed calories are? For example, today I ate around 1000, but yesterday, let's say I only had 800. Does it matter that I ate 200 more calories or just as long as I'm under 1500-1800, am I okay?

How many calories you need doesn't just depend on how old and big you are, it also depends on your activity level. Just look at some of those guys playing basketball and stuff! I bet you can find some who eat more in a single meal than you do in a day, and they are still in great shape! They just work off the extra calories.

Eating 1000 calories one day and 800 the next shouldn't hurt anything. but I am curious, why do you is 500-800 calories per day less than you should? Is it because you are afraid of gaining weight? As long as you keep your activity levels up, you should be fine increasing your intake. Just remember to have a good breakfast and a light healthy dinner.

And as long as you exercise enough to burn about as many calories as you eat, you will be fine. Remember that you are still growing at 15, if you want to stay a healthy size you will need to allow yourself to gain a little more.

The number of needed daily calories is what your body should be converting into energy with normal daily activity. If you are more active... say with sports you will need more calories to keep your body running properly. If you are a normal weight you should eat within your range and try not to skimp on your caloric intake. If you don't get enough calories your metabolism will slow because your body goes into survival mode because it thinks it's being starved. If your metabolism slows to a point where it is not using the calories you consume it will start converting it to fat. At your age you should not be skimping on calories bcause your body is still developing. Not eating enough can mess up your periods, make your hair fall out, make your skin bad, and can cause serious health problems. Being overweight has serious issues associated with it as well. You should eat within your daily range.

It depends on how many calories your body burns in 24 hours. If you consume 1000 calories in 24 hours, but your body burns 1500, you will lose weight. If you do this consistently, you will keep losing weight. The same goes if you consume more than you burn, you will gain weight.
